When a meth head breaks in somewhere to get the funds to get a score, they don't give a frick what happens. They have the score on their mind, and that is it. Trust me, I've seen it first hand.

Yep. Again, cops would just walk around racking their shotguns instead of shooting people if that worked. Also, why do they keep one in the pipe of their sidearms? Racking the slide should have the same effect.

:kige:
I've always thought that was the most idiotic statement. (Racking a shotgun puts fear in a perp).
bullshite, nothing does, other than lead in most instances.

Well I still believe that some if not most criminals would be scared away by this noise.
But, just thinking out loud here, maybe it's not smart to give away your position like that. And thus alerting the perp exactly what type of weapon you have?
I come from a hyper careful father so please understand that leaving a loaded/chambered shotgun under the bed is hard for me to wrap my brain around.
But again, I don't claim to know everything, and I'm always trying to improve my knowledge and understanding of all things weapon-related.
ETA: Why'd we get the anchor treatment?

Another factor is that when you rack the shotgun to load a round the gun could jam. You also could be so amped up and forget to rack the slide. Another thing that could happen is you fumble the gun around and can't get it racked in under a second.
You never know how you will react in a situation when your life is in danger. I believe it's best that if you are ever in a situation like that its better to have as few things to do as possible. Such as take the firearm off safety and pull trigger.
