Everyone I've seen keeps their base in the center of the map, would it not make sense to off set it in a corner and use the wilderness to limit which direction you can get attacked from and you can focus your defenses.
To be clear I am in the process of upgrading to Th5 so just now giving thought to how I want to set up my base because so far it hasn't mattered and also I have no idea as to the strategies of attacks and what is possible from higher level troops, but to me this seems better.

The outside "wilderness" doesn't block anything. You can dump troops on the outside of the map.

damn just realized I've been pretty close to the masters class for a little while. currently sitting a 2488 trophies.
been going a little above and a little below 2500 since i changed my base layout. may go ahead and attack people to get the rest of the way to the 2600 mark...

I went from almost 1200 down to ~ 860 trophies just scoring loot from people leaving it out in the open. I'm back to 970 or so but I'm just trying to upgrade. Not even worried about a trophy

oh I play. but I've just been donating troops and collecting resources for awhile now. usually check in about twice a day. not a very exciting playing style but my schedule here lately, especially with work and school, hasn't allowed for much gaming. checking in on CoC is all I have time for
