I saw the shakes at the end of July in 2011 during W.C. Handy week at a small record shop in Florence, AL.

At that time they were still just "the shakes", didn't even have an album recorded, and not many people knew who they were...

Some tweets from Jason Isbell and Doc Dailey persuaded me and my friends to go check them out, and sitting in a lawn chair up front in a stuffy old record shop with about 100 people crammed inside and outside my friends and I were amazed. Luckily for them, Patterson Hood of Drive by Truckers was there as well. He also was blown away and asked them to do some tour shows with DBT....

From there they went on to do Conan, Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel, Fallon, and tour the world... Tonight they were nominated for 3 grammy's even though they didn't win and will be on SNL next week.

I know... CSB... but congrats to The Shakes...

Hold On - Performed in Pegasus Records

John, yeah I know John well. I went to highschool with Doc. My sister graduated with Doc, and I graduated with his little sister.

Unfortunately John just quit Doc Dailey & the Magnolia Devils about a week ago.

That was while I was at UNA. I'm sure i know some people form Brooks in your class, but I can't think of them off the top of my head.

I still see JB every time I go back to Ricatoni's.

yeah... he still works there.

I always see him anytime I go to see Doc, or any good local music... John and I were taking shots of Jack out of a Coke bottle at Shoals Theatre watching Isbell about a month ago.

Their singer looks like a substitute teacher, but she has some pipes. This band is damn good.

They literally came out of no where. A year ago no one had ever heard of them and now they're all over the place

It's no accident, they have a very connected team of managers and lawyers behind the scenes.

They probably have a lot of good managers and lawyers now, but I guarantee they didn't when I first saw them. I'm sure Folks like Patterson Hood, Billy Reid, and other muscle shoals people help get them connected.

Well no, they were "found" and pushed.

They paid their dues absolutely.

They didn't pay them for long. They were only a band for two years before they had a song featured in a fricking zales commercial

John P. Strohn was their lawyer back then (or becoming their lawyer), because thats who turned me on to them... I think I bought their EP around then or early fall 2011...

Yeah I think their EP had been recorded when we saw them, but it didn't come out until about month and a half later.

When we saw them in July it was a free show with free beer supplied by Pegasus and they were opening for Doc Dailey.
