Surprised Stanford isn't more desirable. Beautiful area, great coach, great degree, pro system.
yeah I'd pick it over Notre Dame if I was looking for something like that.

Stanford is better from an academic and location standpoint than ND, but that's pretty much it. Besides the tradition/prestige of ND, ND's football facilities, and its religious affiliation (which is part of ND's appeal for some prospects/parents), ND also draws more people to its Spring Game than Stanford does hosting the Pac 12 Championship. Nobody gives a crap about football at Stanford. People (students, alumni, and subway alumni) care a ton at ND. You'll get attention and buzz.

In the middle of nowhere. Seriously, who wants to go to Manhattan, Kansas.

All kind of head-scratchers for me.

Not really. Tech hasn't been that great in a while, so it is no surprise that they don't recruit well.

Stanford and KState have been doing amazing things with low level talent. If you've watched either team play the past 3 years you would have heard some announcer slobbering over this fact at least once.

You're probably right. They rank the top group and then close their eyes and drag their hands across the paper ranking the rest.

Texas doesn't surprise. They go out and hit this guys hard when they are freshmen and sophomores and are studs then, but by the time they are seniors, they aren't as good as their peers but Texas is stuck with them.

Stanford will sign way later than everybody else, they do a tremendous job of getting guys that are the perfect fit in terms of student, system, and the person.

GaTech recruits guys for the system so no surprise there.

Stanford LB commit peter kalaymbi (sp?) Is the real deal. He's one that i think they vastly underrated.

Look out for Spencer Perkins preferred walk-on kicker. My nephew goes to school there and the kid kicked several 60+ yard field goals in practice this year and nailed a 52 yarder in a game with 10 yards to spare.

For Texas to be #23 on both Scout and Rivals is truly ridiculous.

You have to consciously recruit against yourself to pull that off.

Apathy has set in with a vengeance. They're hardly talking about recruiting on any of the Texas boards. They're just riding out one more season under Mack and hoping to start over with a new coach.

According to Rivals rankings Stanford's lowest ranked class from 2009-2012 is 26 and they were #5 last year. This class is way off their norm.

Doesn't explain why Johnson can't sign defensive talent.

Maybe it's just because he's an a-hole.

re: Which schools surprise you having low recuriting rankings

It's pretty crazy how random results on the field translate from recuriting rankings, espescially outside of the top 10 or so.

Take TCU in 2006, as class that included 5 current NFL players:

Marcus Cannon (NE) 3*, Andy Dalton (Cinci) 3*, Jerry Hughes (Indy) 2*, Colin Jones (carolina) 3*, Marshall Newhouse (GB) 2*.

That class was ranked 60th by Rivals.

The 2007 Boise St. class ranked 68th by Rivals included 7 current NFL Players:

Doug Martin (TB) 2*, Kellen Moore (Det) 3*, Shea McClellin (Chi) 2*, Austin Pettis (St.L) 3*, Nate Potter (Ariz) 2*, Billy Winn (Cle) 3*, Titus Young (Det) 3*

I can't remember the last time GT had a good class so to say it surprises me doesn't really make sense. Our brand just doesn't sell anymore. GT is in the heart of SEC territory and when you combine that with the limitations the schools puts on itself, just isn't appealing.

UGA did pretty terrible considering how loaded the state of GA was this year. Their class is good but it could have been great.
