A year, two years?

I'm at about 1400 rds spread between 9, 270, 35 whelen, 380, and a case and a half of various shot shells around 50 00.

I don't envision the urban sector organizing enough in a short amount of time to prevent me from getting to my place in the Oxarks.

I think I need more rifle ammo for survival purposes, but certainly 700+ rds of handgun should get me 10 hours up the highway.

How much time/ammo allocation do you plan needing for bug out?

3-5k is common range per caliber. I'd think if you were just using it for hunting (God willing) that it could last a long time.

If you had to defend yourself, I think you'd be dead before you shot it all.

A day or two if your using cover fire to keep people off of your position.

It's lasted Rick and crew 3 seasons on the walking dead, and they do a shite ton of shooting, so based on that information alone; two weeks.

Well, when you turn a 5 round 870 on unlimited ammo and zero recoil it tends to last you a long time.

I have to think that rough times would call for tighter usage of ammo. So I'd like to think that I could put a fella down in 5 shots or less....

Once Id put down ~200 humans....I'd probably be ready to hang it up anyway...

I'm talking bugging out before people are trying to overtake your home and property. Not bunker defense tactics.

SHTF, the first place I'm going is the nearest class 3 dealer. Having a suppressed weapon would be like having a winning lottery ticket. Especially if it's something like .22 which can barely be heard when suppressed.

There's no right amount IMO. Biggest value post collapse may be as barter material.
As the other poster said, you probably won't need 1000 rounds of 9mm to fight with.

Are they not over taking homes and property where you are going? Or do you have a second stockpile already at the rendezvous point?

Depends on your location... you live in ATL or Nola or any metro area... will not last near as long as if you lived in a smaller area like myself in beautiful Liberty SC. Im sitting on about 1400 rnds 5.56 9, 45, 40 I'd be fine for a few months.. in a big city... a week at best..

I'm at the top of a mountain with one gate and rough terrain to get in our property, surrounded by backwoods Arky rednecks and Injuns, if I make it there I am fine.

An observation and a question:

1 - If the SHTF stay the hell away from urban areas. Get to the rural high ground.

2 - How would someone easily carry thousands of rounds of ammo if moving? Are we assuming the roads are still passable in a working vehicle?

Yea if you're in a city you're screwed pretty much. If you can make it a couple weeks you might be fine then but at first a city would be total chaos. Hopefully if SHTF i'll be out of college and in some rural area.

I have a designated rendezvous point with my family.......if we all make it there we would have very little outside resistance......plenty of food and water.

That amount of ammo would last me quite some time as it would just be used for hunting.
