This really drives me nuts and it happened again last night

Early in the 3rd quarter and you take a time out on a first down

Why? Are those 5 yards more valuable than a time out? I say no. Just take the delay.

I thought it was stupid but it didn't bother me.

Then again I'm an LSU fan so I'm pretty much numb to shite like that.

I was pondering making a thread about this. I think the 5 yards is worth taking to me IMO. If your down already and there's a pretty good chance you'll need those to help you get the ball back, you absolutely take the 5.
Had they had one last night, they would have had about 45 seconds inseatd of about 5 to try and get down the field

if you aren't able to comeback, then the timeouts wont matter in the end

And if you can't overcome a first and 15 you're probably not going to come back

Or how about this. The qb calls for the ball and just tries to scamble and maybe gets 2 yards. Second and 8 is better than burning a time out for no reason.

First half, I say use the timeout. Second half, don't.

I agree. I don't get why they do this on 1st down.

I thought it was a poor decision at the end also. That TO was much more valubale than those 5 yards. Hell, in a goal to go when you know you are passing, I'd rather throw from the 10 anyway.

This I don't agree with. The game basically hinged on that possession, and Harbaugh knew it.

The only reason I say it is that it was more room to pass or scramble for that matter.
