Heading to Austin this week, gimme a rundown on the "must have" beers of Austin/Texas that we don't get here in Louisiana. TIA

Not an Austin beer, but I'd recommend you try some No Label beers if you see them. Made in Katy.

(512) Pecan Porter
Live Oak Hefeweizen

Independence makes some solid beers, I love their brown ale

Jester King makes some farmhouse/funk/sours, if you're into that kinda thing

Real Ale is a little ways from Austin out in Blanco, but you may be able to find some of their specialty stuff around Austin

Adelbert's is there too, but I don't know their stuff. Austin Beer Works and South Austin too.

probably a few others not mentioned

you should not have any trouble finding good beer

Adelbert's Tripple B is very tasty. I had a growler of it a few weeks ago.

Thirst Planet makes a great IPA called Buckethead. But they don't bottle. Find it on tap somewhere. Whip In usually has it.

I wasn't downing it. I was warning people for the gastrointestinal carnage that might result.

Pretty much agree with everything else that's been said. Not sure what type of beer you like, so here are a few of my Austin favorites:

Live Oak Hefe, Primus and Treehugger (These can only be found on tap)

(512) Pecan Porter, Cascabel Cream Stout and IPA (These can only be found on tap)

Jester King Funk Metal, Boxer's Revenge and RU-55 (all sours)

Austin Beerworks Sputnik(Imperial Stout)
