I still don't think you should allow some 'political' faction to help you decide who to hire. Jones though may be one who could work out. Still taking a wait and see approach.

The hire was a bit underwhelming because we were promised a national search and we ended up with what felt like a hire from the good ole boys. coach jones had some success in his previous job and has put in work on the recruiting trail but it's too soon to decide how good or bad he'll be for lsu.

I'm glad he's recruiting well and he beat Mizzou, but it's a bit too early to say "I told you so."

I would have liked to have hired someone who was a proven winner at a higher level than the Sun Belt, but I never doubted that JJ would bring in some talented players and when you do that in basketball you can be successful.

My concern with JJ is once our talent level approaches that of the Kentucky's, Florida's, and other proven programs, can JJ match up with the coaching ability you find at those programs.

A lot of people thought and still think we're prettier than we actually are. It's a great way to set yourself up for disappointment.

Exactly. I was opposed to the hire for several reasons, but what's done is done and I'm going to hope like hell it works out and support Johnny and the team as best I can.

But it will be years before we really know if it was a good hire, a great hire, a middling hire or a bad one.

The only reason I was disappointed was because we had some big names being tossed around in the Alleva Flight tracking thread. I felt great after the hire when I watched his press conference and the way he began on the recruiting trail when he got here. Having a top 5 recruiting class before he even coached his 1st game said a lot about him to me.

I know you were fond of Trent, but it's not hard to see that Johnny surpasses him by miles. Still way to early tell if he was a good hire, but the future looks incredibly bright

I came home from work, grilled some salmon, expressed my disappointment on Tigerdroppings and proceeded to watch Yungstar videos on YouTube.

I will say considering what we have this year, I think he has done well considering injuries and all. With the recruiting we have coming in, we will be tough next year IMO. If JoJo, keeps the recruiting up and we start winning, the recruiting will be even easier for him. I really think if we make a sweet sixteen, he will be a top 5 recruiter every year. Yes, it is too early to say I told you so, but it isn't too early to say the future does look bright.

I tried to be as supportive of Trent because I wanted him to succeed. I think if you'll look at my post history on Trent I took him to task alot, even in that first year when for most he could do no wrong.

So while I tried to balance my concerns with positives I did see, I think I was far from a sunshine pumper as relates to Trent.

It's already clear Johnny is better for LSU than Trent. I've never disputed that...ever. Even when I was pissed about the hire. But that's not the standard we need to hold he or any coach we would have hired to.

I'll give Johnny every chance, and I'll be more than fair. But I'm also not going to rationalize games like the Georgia and South Carolina game just cause he's not Trent.

I'm going to hold him to a standard that higher than just "better than Trent".

And I'll be the happiest dude on here to say 4 or 5 years from now "man, we made the right hire".

Nothing would make me happier.

UGA and USC aren't very good. But they have at least average size. They only size we had was hurt in those games I believe. Coach K probably couldn't have won them with what we had. JJ had zero opportunity to recruit this class up and still managed to bring in some guys that would contribute NOW. TJ would be getting his arse handed to him right now and we all know it, had he not left. I'd be surprised if we didn't have significant improvement over the next few years.

I wouldn't go that far Palm Beach. South Carolina is smaller than us and they lost one of their best players for the year early and they were pretty bad with him. Georgia has no inside presence of note. And yes, JOB3 wasn't 100% but IMHO that wasn't the whole story behind his struggles.

I'm just not gonna rationalize those games or the second half at Auburn. I still think accountability is reasonable.

I will say I was very proud of how we played at Kentucky and ecstatic after the win last night.

I'll judge this years team on the season as a whole and I'll judge next year on it's own merits and so on.

And I'll declare victory when victory is earned, not before and it will be years before a credible judgement on that can be made on that. I've just been around too long to do otherwise.

And again, I hope like hell I can say "I was wrong Johnny". Hell, I'll tell him myself in person if it happens and be happy to do it.
