Is he better than Santos?

Just by looking at their stats, Santos put up more impressive numbers (10-10 in 40-49 yd FGs!! ). But Brett wasnt that far behind. If Santos isn't coming out this year then maybe we should check out Brett. Plus, the guy oozes swag. Just look at that picture I posted earlier.

You can compare their stats here. They're both listed in the second group of kickers

welcome aboard

do some cursory research, we have enough useless threads much less suggesting guys not avaialble

similarly, how many kickers are ever drafted at all? Look it up. LIKE HERE Usually a couple a year. ya gotta be pretty overwhelming and the team has to have a pretty big hole to get drafted at all.

Lastly, " guy is a questionable kicker, not impressed at all " isn't much of a case to make against Hartley. Try harder. I'd point out in response that Hartley is #8 alltime in FG conversion %. That's better than Matt Bryant, Connor Barth, Gostkowski, Vinatieri, etc. For his career he is 12 of 14 40-49yds and 5 of 7 from 50+yds. Not impressive enough for you?

he has a career 86% from under 40 yards. Personally, I'm more worried about those "easy" kicks he should be making that have costed us games. for comparison sake:
matt bryant has a 92.6% from under 40
connor barth has a 92.9%
gostkowski has a 90.5%
vinatieri has a 89.9%
janikowski has a 94.1%
jay feely has a 90.3%
akers has a 93.2%
kasay has a 93.7%
carney has a 90.8%

I'm glad he can make a good bit of those longer kicks because those are harder, but correct me if I'm wrong in saying those "easy" kicks have caused us to get more "L" in the column than those long kicks have given us a "W".

Now you're starting to make a case. Certainly something to watch. I dunno about the games won or lost issue. Research that and let us know.

Bottom line he is under contract for 3 more years. They might bring in someone to push him again (like Kasay) but it is his job to lose. He would have to slump seriously to get on the hot seat.

I'm all for more competition, but to use a draft pick this year is a no-go for me. undrafted kickers aren't rare. I'll take a look at the W/L thing when I have time, but at this moment unless you're kicking near 90% for <40yards, which seems to be average of every kicker, I think you need to get some more practice in or something.

Payton has too much of a man crush on Hartley to cut him. Garrett is not done costing us games unfortunately.

Tampa 2009 short game winner
Atlanta (and #1) seed 2010. Short game winner
Kansas City 2012 short game clincher
Green Bay 2012 penalty affected but still game costing miss

This here is the problem. I don't care how good or bad he is at long range; it's the easy kicks that are the problem. Hartley has major issues with the short kicks, and this is something we can't rely on. He even doinks and near misses XP's. Unacceptable.

I have no problem with drafting kickers personally. A couple years ago this board was lit up with people bitching about us drafting Morstead with (I believe) a fifth, and look how much he has helped us. I liked the pick then, and I'd like a K with a late rounder here if it's one that is projected to be good/great.

As for whom to draft, I have no clue. I barely followed college this year outside of LSU and ND, so I really don't know shite about kickers

C'mon guys. With all the needs on def you know there will NOT be a kicker takin by the Saints in the draft.

However, to those who don't trust hartley I promise you with 100% accuracy that Payton will bring at least two more kickers into camp to compete for the job.
Best man will win the start.

I don't disagree with you; I believe it will be a defense heavy draft with an OL and maybe a WR somewhere in the mix. However, I would have no issue with drafting a K late round. Realistically you are getting a player that will start vs a guy that may last but probably won't though will contribute on ST just as the kicker does.

I think it'll be a FA though
