Joe Vitt isn’t worried about how the Saints are going to replace offensive line coach Aaron Kromer.
It’s not that the Saints won’t miss him – they will, he said. It’s that Vitt is comfortable with how the situation will be handled by Sean Payton, who is still serving his suspension.
“I can promise you this – Sean knows what he wants and what direction he wants to go and I haven’t talked to him,” Vitt said. “But when his feet hit the ground in the next eight or nine days, man, it’s going to be pedal to the metal and we’re going back to the gym. It’s going to be dirty and it’s going to stink and it’s going to be hot but we’re going back to the gym.”
Kromer left New Orleans to become the offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears under newly-hired coach Marc Trestman. The move left a hole in the Saints’ game-planning routine; Kromer was involved in designing run plays and coming up with the running game plan each week.
That alone will be reason enough to miss Kromer.
“It’s huge loss,” Vitt said. “Aaron is very, very talented. His players believe in him. Ever since Aaron came in here, we’ve been able to run the ball, protect the quarterback.”
Said offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael, “I think any time you lose a guy like that it’s going to be hard to replace.”
Both said Kromer is ready for the jump.
“Absolutely,” Carmichael said. “He’s been doing that part with the run game for us the last three or four years for us. He’s ready for that.”
Added Vitt, “This is something that’s the next progression for Aaron, to go and become and offensive coordinator and be more active in the play-calling and this is what he wanted and we’re proud of him."

"Can't wait to try some of these new plays I designed while gone."

I have to admit, I kinda hope Coach Payton allows Joe to do a press conference or two each week. I'm gonna miss these sound bytes.

They should do a training camp at Millsaps again like when Payton first got here. Weed out the weaklings again. Fresh start and get everyone's attitude right.

Funny story about Ellis since you mentioned him. I was working a charity event with someone who has worked in the Saints PR/community relations department since the 90's. We got to talking about football and started talking about the O-line problems and defensive problems. He said he was so glad Ellis is going to be gone. Not only was he a douche and acted like he was too good for the charity and play 60 appearances, he swore to me that on game days Ellis had to lead everyone out of the locker room or else he flipped his shite. Said it got to the point where everyone was just like whatever dude go ahead.
