So my 1.5 year old chocolate just eats her bed, i get a new one, she eats it and it just keeps going. If i just put a blanket in her kennel she will eat that up too. I keep toys in there for her to chew on but she'd rather chew the bed/blanket...

this is all in her kennel, she sleeps in there at night and is in there during the day every now in then

so is there a solution? just take the bed out and have her sleep on the plastic? seems like that would suck for her but maybe the only solution...

Young labs gonna chew shite up. That's just the way they are. Give her some indestructible toys to chew on.

I'd agree with just making her sleep on the hard bottom. She is a dog after all.

You have to redirect the destructive behavior to something that is okay, such as a nylabone or whatever that it is okay for her to chew up. It takes persistence, but she will eventually figure out, 'Okay, they yell at me when I chew this, but they hand me the bone-looking thing and that's okay to chew. It tastes like stale chicken, but at least they think it is okay to chew that.'

This is what we're doing with our puppy right now. She was licking her towel until it was damp and smelled terrible, or she wouldn't be able to hold it for 4 hours while at work and didn't mine peeing a little on her towel. Since taking the towel out, no accidents or bad smells. She doesn't seem to mind sleeping on plastic, she is a dog. We just keep enough chew toys in there to keep her occupied.

Im assuming this is an inside dog?

Reason i ask is my labs chew every dam thing.. But during the winter i fill their house up with hay and they LOVE that shite! They make a nest in there and stay in it during the night, but if this is inside im sure it would be a problem if anyone has allergies

My dog did the same if we put any type of cloth in there. We stuffed his house with hay one year and he loves it. Just makes a little nest in there.

Hay will mold. Use pine straw instead.

And yea, they're dogs. Let em sleep on the hard bottom, if they dont like it after a few weeks they wont eat the bed.

My 1 year old Boykin Spaniel does the same thing. She loves to chew on cloth items. Pillows, blankets, dog beds, you name it, she would rather chew on that than on her chew toys. We haven't found anything she would rather chew except real bones/raw-hides but I can't afford to be constantly giving her those.

How much exercise is she getting? (I know, the question for all destructive dogs)

She should grow out of this stage. I have owned and trained labs for well over 20 years. This is a very natural behavior. Young labs are hell on a house.

If you are that concerned about her sleeping on a towel, bed, etc - spray it - coat it - with some sour apple spray. Should last for a few days and if she still does it let her sleep on the bottom of the crate.

Good news is that you are almost out of the puppy phase. Something about labs when they hit 2. The puppy switch goes off and the adult dog switch is turned on. She will love you just the same if she sleeps on the floor as she would sleeping on a bed.

Shouldnt have any prob then. I know mold can deal some of them misery so I always tell people. Most wont change it that often though and its def been wet if the dogs been outside the last two weeks.

Haha i hear ya. Yea ours never gets wet, we just change it because they like the fresh hay! And we enjoy watching them react when we put it in, they whine and roll in it and just go crazy! They are outside labs but they are my only children

Here you go. We bought one of these for my Lab Kramer (RIP) and it really pissed him off that he could not destroy it.

Took about a week but he just gave up trying to chew it.

Note: The fabric on this bed will withstand some chewing. It is not chew proof and will not withstand medium-hard, persistent, or aggressive chewing. If your dog is a persistent chewer, this bed is likely not the right bed. Please check out our selection of stronger weight denier and chew resistant and chewproof dog beds.

I have had bored labs chew a hole through a hardwood floor, chew up Filson brush pants, chew light socket covers off the wall, eat trees, make mince meat out of a power drill, completely destroy a $300 pair snake boots, turn a breakfast room chair into splinters, completely destroy a kitchen garbage can and so on and so on. If that bed only takes light chewing then some of my past young dogs would have taken care of that bed in a few minutes.

Point being is that some labs are just hard headed and bored to tears when they shouldn't be. When they are bored they tear shite up. Thats why I always have at least two dogs now. They entertain each other most of the time.

This is true. My in laws adopted my black lab several years ago and in her old age she would get pissed when they left her outside all day. So she started ripping the siding off the house and chewing it up. Even started ripping the back door apart. They asked me what to do about it and I told them to take the siding she ripped off and beat her with it. Of course they didn't so she continued until they gave up and left her inside all day. She's 13 now and has cancer and a bad cough. Last year I said she wouldn't last a year, but she is still around and not in any pain. She doesn't have much longer
