Quote: "The issue that we have is that we suck at passing, not that we don't pass enough." I was not trying to point out we don't pass enough, but that of they 3 games we lost, 2 of them we had more pass plays vs rush plays. If we suck at passing, maybe we shouldn't do it more than what we do well.

Quote: "That particular factoid isn't all that important" We lost 2 of the 3 games we called more passes than runs. The other game coulda been a "bad loss". To me that's important.

The better statistic would be run/pass percentage while the game was competitive. I think there were a couple of early season games where we did not throw much in the fourth quarter to run down the clock. Those can tarnish the analysis. You also have to look at down and distance. I am sure we threw more on third and 10 than on third and 1. I am looking forward to seeing these stats from you later.

Quote: " and 60/40 run pass this yr." It was actually 56/43. Those extra 20 passes vs runs in critical situations cost us atleast 1of our 3 losses, upon further investigation it may be more.

fwiw, we ended up at 200 passing/ 174 rushing, and 60/40 run pass this yr.
Shockingly, because we couldn't run the ball that well in November and December. WTF happened there?

Doesn't necessarily break down the number of plays, but it does make some good observations. Article fron ATVS

There is no ideal percentage. If you're playing from behind you're going to be passing a lot. If you're in a shootout you're going to be passing a lot. If you're protecting a lead you're going to be running more. Talking about "ideal ratios" is stupid and misses the main point which is which whether the plays themselves are designed well, and whether they are being called at appropriate times. The offense needs to work. Pass, run, whatever, just put together an offense that can at least break the top 50 consistently and we will be in much better shape.
