Also, don't take your family/friends to Lucy's. Terrible food all the time and lame party crowd most of the time.

I'll second American Sector as a perfect spot when it comes to fitting your description of near CC, kid friendly, light fare, casual. Also Ernst Cafe would work.

I couldn't agree more although I can be spotted there after Saints wins and pee raids

Meh, I've taken my kids to Lucy's for lunch a few times and it has been fine for that.
Can't believe someone thinks Ernst is much better than Lucy's.

After I thought about the idea that the OP is running a race the next day, I have to say that neither one of these would be good options.
