Benelli 12 gauge Super Sport
Plan to start competitive shooting and use for home defense if needed. Are there any recommended accessories or brand of shells?

Skeet shooting. I don't have much experience or knowledge, but I really enjoyed it.

I won't be entering into any tournaments for awhile. Lots more practice to take place.

What shells to use depends on what you are going to be doing with it.
If you were really buying it for competitive shooting you should have gotten an O/U. Dont get me wrong, Benelli makes great shotguns but as for competitive shooting of most types an O/U is your better decision.

Heck, competitive shooting? I wish I could shoot with both eyes open like the pros!!!
All I see is two barrels!!
I know - I am doing it wrong. Congrats on the gun. In about 5 years I would like an o/u to shoot doves, etc.

Congrats on your first shotty!
Firstly I would not use a competition shotgun to defend my home. The barrel will be way too long for maneuvering around corners and all that does is create a hassle for passing through doorways. If its your only option, I guess it'll do but I'd recommend something like an 870 with a smaller barrel. 18" is the standard for defensive shotguns.
As far as defensive loads, any buckshot will do the job. I have 00 buck loaded in my 870 at home. Winchester also makes some defensive slugs that are nice, but I would probably go with buckshot to make the shot pattern a bit larger and increase your chances of connecting. #1 buck is probably the best for defensive purposes since it has a good bit more bbs than 00 and they're still big.

Thanks for the info. I'll likely grab my glock .40 that I'm really comfortable if an actual
Home invasion occured.
Excited to own a shotgun, now I need to get comfortable with it and improve my shot.
