Tampa should make a move for Stanton (MLB related)

Marlins have been unloading players like crazy and while Stanton has 4 years remaining under club control he could bring in a haul. Tampa has pitching depth and just acquired Myers from the Royals. Package Myers, Odorizzi, Mahtook, and Hahn ? It is a lot to give up but Stanton having 4 years may be worth the cost. I know Bowden talks about Rangers giving up Profar, Olt, and other prospects for Stanton. Who should command more than Miggy (Marlins traded him after his age 24 season with 2 years on his contract for 2 Tigers prospects ranked in top 10. Maybin/Miller)

Would that then make Tampa the odds on favorite in AL?
Stanton + Longo would be a great 3/4 and they still have Price, Hellickson, Moore, Neimann, Archer/Cobb

Marlins are actively shopping Stanton?

quote:

It’s far too early to talk about the possibilities, but the Padres are one of the clubs the Miami Marlins have talked to regarding right-handed, power-hitting right fielder Giancarlo Stanton.

quote:

Center suspects that the Fish would want infield prospect Jedd Gyorko and at least two other young players in return. Gyorko, 24, batted .311/.373/.547 with 30 home runs, 28 doubles and 100 RBI across 557 plate appearances last season between Double-A San Antonio and Triple-A Tucson. He was a second-round pick of the Padres in the 2010 MLB Amateur Draft.

Tampa should move on this and win the East with Stanton

More Stanton Trade Ideas:
quote:

1. Rangers send Jurickson Profar, Mike Olt and Martin Perez for Stanton and Ricky Nolasco. Jim Bowden tossed this one out there last week. Profar is the No. 1 prospect in the game and is highly regarded enough that 20 WAR (or better) over six seasons isn't a stretch of the imagination. Olt should have a nice big league career as well, although he has some swing-and-miss to his game that raises concerns.

2. Mariners trade Taijuan Walker, Danny Hultzen and Nick Franklin for Stanton. If the Marlins want young pitching that is close to big-league ready then the Mariners are the team to deal with. Walker appears to be a consensus top-10 overall prospect although Hultzen's status has dropped a bit after control issues in Triple-A. The Mariners could include a major-league ready outfielder like Michael Saunders.

3. Cardinals trade Oscar Taveras, Shelby Miller, Allen Craig and Trevor Rosenthal for Stanton. The Cardinals have prospects to deal and could move Carlos Beltran to first base if Craig is dealt. Taveras and Miller are top-20 prospects although Miller's minor league numbers raise questions and neither is a consensus top-10 guy. Rosenthal looked dominant in the bullpen during his big league call-up but started in the minors.

4. Pirates trade Gerrit Cole, Jameson Taillon and Alen Hanson for Stanton. This is similar to the Mariners' deal -- Cole is a top-10 prospect with a huge arm, Taillon is another pitcher who probably ranks in the overall top 20 and Hanson is a comparable infield prospect to Franklin. An outfielder like Starling Marte could be included. And, like the Mariners, the Pirates probably wouldn't want to deal away their young pitching anyway, no matter how great Stanton's future.

We're already stretching the possibilities and I'm not sure the Marlins would do any of those trades. The Orioles would have to start with Dylan Bundy and add other parts. The Rays could start with Wil Myers and some of their young pitching. The Padres have a lot of young talent in the pipeline, but no one player who stands out.

It would take at least one of these guys to headline a massive deal.

A good example why you do not fall in love with your prospects. At the end of the day, they're still magic beans.

For a player like Stanton who has proven himself already, I would trade

Still can't believe Marlins willing to move him and more teams haven't jumped on this. I wish Yankees had a couple of MLB ready prospects they could send the Marlins.

I'm sure every team has made a call. Those are some serious packages, I'd be all for the mariners one though.

What gets me is the Marlins themselves have been putting out feelers about Stanton. So they must believe he will be a problem this year.

Well... they are committed to losing this year. Every player should have a problem with that.

Well yeah... I am still surprised they have Nolasco and they haven't moved him yet

These deals are terrible. No way any of those teams give up that much

For real

The pirates weren't willing to trade cole or taillon for upton but I'm supposed to believe they're going to trade both in addition to their 3rd best prospect. Lulz

I would take Stanton who is under control for 4 more years over Upton. Stanton has better power numbers in what is more of a pitchers park.

I mean, maybe the TEX deal bc they need another bat badly.

Not sure about Seattle. I don't think their prospects are that good anyway.

There's no way STL gives up Miller, Taveras, and Rosenthal... Much less Allen Craig, who is a proven MLB hitter who isn't far off Stanton's production

And yeah, the pirates aren't giving up both of their studs.

As would I, but there isn't enough of a difference in the players to even begin thinking about a deal like that if they wouldn't have parted with just one of their big pitchers for Upton.

That's not even a comparison, Stanton is the 3rd best asset in all of baseball IMO. 2 months ago I would agree those packages looked ridiculous but after seeing what Shields and Dickey brought back those are the type of deals the Marlins should be asking for.

re: Tampa should make a move for Stanton (MLB related)

quote:

There has been heavy trade speculation surrounding Marlins star Giancarlo Stanton ever since the club's blockbuster deal with the Blue Jays and the outfielder's subsequent displeasure with the team. The Marlins also publicly acknowledged that they are willing to listen on Stanton and any other player, as per their club policy. However, a team source tells Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald that they haven't even discussed the possibility of trading Stanton internally.

The source said flatly that the Marlins "are not moving" Stanton while another source who is familiar with the Marlins' intentions says that the club still plans to have him start the season in Miami and occupy the clean-up spot.
