opposite end of the spectrum. This Oregon team has a much better QB and doesnt turn the ball over like last year's team did. Defense is much deeper and better. Offensive line has more experience.

A different year, a different tale. You think LSU loses to Clemson last year? Or that A&M beats Bama?

I was responding to the extreme statement, "no way Alabama could beat Oregon". It is silly to think Oregon is unbeatable especially after Stanford beat them in Eugene. The Cardinal and Crimson Tide teams are very similar in style but Bama is much deeper in talent and they are used to playing on the big stage. With that said, if I had to put my money in a battle between Oregon and Bama, it would be on Bama. TAMU surprised Bama just like LSU did last season. I would pick Bama over TAMU in a rematch.

This.

It would be nice to see him win a title at Bama where the opponent doesn't play exactly into his hands/scheme/strengths.

He's never had an opponent (in the champ game) that uses the whole field.

Bama has sort of been lucky to not have been mis-matched.

Alabama would whip Oregon. Every time Oregon plays a team with a great D line they lose.

For destroying KSU? So did Baylor.

Oregon only played two legit teams this year: KSU and Stanford. They lost to one at home and beat one at a neutral site. They only played one other team that will probably finish ranked, and that team was 9-4, not exactly great. They have absolutely no business being ranked No. 1 over the winner of Jan. 7's game.

Buckeye fan - you gave up to 35 to Cal at home. We gave up 17 with no DL at their place. Pleaz...before I bitch slap you.

I go to ND now and am an Irish fan, username is from when I joined the site, before the OSU-LSU NCG. Really don't care about OSU that much anymore (though I'd rather them win than lose I guess since I grew up cheering for them and my bro is a frosh there).

And explain to me why you think you deserve No. 1 over the winner of the BCSCG.

I don't think we deserve #1 - I just don't care for comments that say we only played two teams. Teams slip up to teams that aren't as good as them on paper.

Fair enough. I wasn't trying to discredit Oregon as a great team, my response was to the OP, who said he'd vote them No. 1. There's really no justification for it.

I pulled for OSU pretty hard in 2010 (my freshman year), though still secondary behind ND. But after that, probably a combination of the Tressel firing, who was basically my childhood link to OSU, and then my second year at ND/finally embracing ND football one hundred percent, and I didn't really care about OSU anymore.

I agree with the OP....

But for real, our offense was underwhelming tonight.

I'm not saying Oregon is more deserving of being in the National Championship Game than Alabama as I think Alabama's resume is more impressive than Oregon's. However, I do believe Oregon would pose a tougher matchup for Alabama than anyone outside of maybe Texas A&M.

Also, using the LSU comparison is pretty off-base IMO for numerous reasons. LSU got two gift TOs from DAT in his first game as a collegiate player. He's come a long way from that. They were also playing against Darron Thomas who couldn't hold Mariota's jock strap. Lastly, and this is the biggest difference, Alabama doesn't have the dominant, disruptive DL that LSU had last year.

Alabama's defense is very good this year, but their DL isn't as dominant as it's been in years past. They wouldn't be able to disrupt the Ducks at the LOS like LSU and Stanford have done lately. I also think their speed at the second level is a little lacking as A&M showed when they spread them out. Those 260 LBs they have this year aren't the physical freaks they had last year.

Now I still think Alabama would have a damn good shot of winning the game simply because I think they could overpower Oregon with their rushing attack and keep the ball away from their offense, but I think they'd need to score in the 30s to win.

Oregon didnt win their conference so they dont deserve a chance to win the national title. It sucks that LSU had to lose to Bama last year for people to realize how ridiculous it is for a team that isnt the best n their conference to be named best n the natioj
