I would give him a C. I hope he can improve but I'm a little worried.

We knew there would be a dropoff there this year...but he also had a lot less to work with considering something like 5 DBs left the team from last year.

Incomplete

He lost his top two defensive backs and had a freshman starting at one corner spot.

Reid - a veteran looked worse this year

Simon- also a veteran looked lost at times

Playing freshmen has nothing to do with two veteran guys playing poorly.

I may just being a bit hard on Reid, but Simon looked awful at times.

The problem with your assessment of Corey is based on Reid and Simon...if you stop to notice that Neither Reid nor Simon are fire starters. While they each made big plays in a game they both relied on the firestarter to get them hyped up! In this case it was Tyran before Tyran it was Peterson! Without the firestarter they both played monotone! Which is what you call looked worse than last year!!!

If you are fair then you will say that the entire Defense looked worse this year because nobody stepped up to make the impact plays,

Meh, too many freshman. It's easy when you have a pp7 or a Clairborne that takes their top guy out of the equation. Simon was never going to be as good.

No grade yet. Need to see how he develops talent.

Can't argue with this, but I thought Loston looked pretty good this year.

Anybody watching film on Reid this year, and previous ones, will instantly realize that he is physically gifted, but has absolutely zero idea of how to play his position.

He can be a good tackler, but instictually doesn't use his arms on many occasions.

As far as coverage goes, I don't think anyone is forgetting the last play of the half against Arkansas, the Ole Miss game this year, and the 4th and 16 Monday night. There were also many other occasions that he was caught out of position, and the opposing QB threw a Mettenberger.

I just cannot fathom how a SAFETY on 4th and 16 is EVER trailing a receiver enough to run full speed out of control toward his man, and allow an underthrown pass to reach home.

How can you be out of position THAT bad? How did he get that far inside the first down marker, and/or allow his man beyond him from that point?

I'm giving him an incomplete at the moment.

I do have an issue with our DB play that's more a scheme thing that would fall on Chavis than on Raymond (imo). basically, we blitz the slot CB when in nickel and mustang and leave the safety to cover WRs 1 on 1. and Loston and Reid just weren't the guys to do that. we saw it repeatedly throughout the yr and never adjusted.

I'd like to see the safety come on the blitz a bit more and let Mills/ Micah cover.
