Ive always heard the same thing. However, I have a feeling you'd be in a whole heap of trouble if the forensic people decided to check things out. Blood splatter patterns are a bitch.

Another hint. If you shoot an intruder and they are down and out of the fight break off your agression. I've heard of several cases of people going to jail for shooting a bad guy once he was down and out of the fight.

My personal plan is once they walk through the door and are facing me they are as good as dead. Just make sure they are inside and you don't shoot them in the back

What are they? Do I have to verbally warn them before shooting or can I shoot as long as they are inside?

If you are in fear for your life you shoot. When the police get there the ONLY thing you tell them is that you need to see a lawyer. He will tell you what to say after that.

What is the case where the homeowner shoots the exchange student in the yard? I believe it took place in Baton Rouge?

I believe BigLego is a crim. defense attorney IRL.

very complicated case, said kid was outside the home when he was shot, was dressed in Halloween costume, did not respond to commands stop, had been banging on the door etc. Shooter ended up being innocent in the criminal side, but gt a million dollar civil judgement against him, homeowners policy had a 100K limit, paid it out and the shooter had to file for bankruptcy and lost everything

Ill say this. If you do shoot someone dead in your house, or where ever, call an attorney

This. "because of the seriousness of this situation, I'd like to call a lawyer".

BTW, anyone remember what happened in a case a while back involving a police officer on Greenwell Springs being beaten to death when a passerby shot and killed the perp? I think it was towards Central...don't remember. Ended up saving the cops life. I remember the passer by being an old disabled man.

During my CCW class this was brought up. Guy ended up having to move to a different state apparently due to the fallout; something about black activists around BR or something.

By the way, the dragging him into the house thing doesn't sound legit. The statute says "in the process of entering" also.

I don't know about in La, but in general, if you have a reasonably apprehension of imminent death or serious bodily injury you can use deadly force in self defense.

the hattori case

I have always felt that the kid with him was largely at fault for 1. letting him walk up there like that.

2. not screaming stop stop stop when he realized what was happening....

3. did he egg hattori on? and think it was funny that the wife got scared?

Wow, that's really bad advice. Either that officer hates you or is an idiot.

again no criminal charges, but the last I heard is he had multiple civil suits against him (that he should win) but has spent over $30K of his own money defending himself

I think I would request to be brought to the hospital because of chest tightness....gives you time to call and assemble your own team

As if this wouldn't be very fricking obvious when the cops got there. Do you realize what a mess it would make to shoot someone in the driveway and drag their dead arse inside?
