Is it worth the price? Does it live up to they hype?

it was good but i don't think there was any difference really b/w that and prime beef
if i served you kobe beef at texas roadhouse you'd probably tell me how it was inferior beef

It is very, very good, especially if someone else is paying.
I don´t think I´d drop that change for it, however.

Had a sampling of NY strip in Vegas one night was a 4 oz serving of 3 different NY strip, Japanese Kobe, US Kobe style wagyu and dry aged prime all cooked the same. The Kobe was the best but not 5 times better , now that I have tasted it I will probably never order it again.

I would like it with fried rice at a Japanese Steakhouse

Isn't it true that there is no real Kobe in the US? Thought I read that somewhere...

Used to be, but laws changed recently

even so, there's not a significant amount being imported...in other words, many restaurants that claimed to be selling it before the recent changes are still claiming to sell it, as well as many other restaurants...you literally have to see a certificate of authenticity to be sure, and those are probably being forged, so how do you really know?

Very true, how do you know you are getting prime and not choice, wild vs farm raised, African lobster vs Maine lobster, wine by the glass that it s suppose to be, a martini made with kettle one, Louisiana shrimp, Norwegian salmon???

you're absolutely right...you never know for sure exactly what you're getting.

Have it at Cut? Had the same thing. Thought it was the best also, but was so fatty/rich, i'd only ever eat a 2oz portion.

I had what the restaurant at the Memphis Peabody Hotel said was Kobe and can honestly say that I've eaten better steaks at Ryan's. Tried it again at a Japanese steak house and it was by far the best steak I've ever eaten.

Yes, was a great meal, enjoyed having the 3 cooked side by side to eliminate as many variables as possible and to be able to objectively differentiate them. Got a pretzel roll there thT was the best piece of bread I have ever ate

I ordered Kobe beef in a restaurant once. I was very disappointed in my steak, but a friend at dinner with us couldn't stop talking about how good his was. About half-way through our meal, I jokingly asked our waiter if he had swapped our steaks. Turned out, he actually had! He mixed up our orders and thought my friend had ordered the Kobe.

If you eat REAL Kobe beef, then yes...it's worth it.
If you eat BS Kobe beef, then no...it's not.
