It bloats rush defense rankings of teams that have a good pass rush.

Something that grinds my gears.

Well where do you think those yards should go? Just not count them?

Take them out of total yards.

Why should having a good pass rush make your rush defense statistically better?

In the context of the game itself, it means nothing.

How about all the dual threat QB's out there now? The DE's have to contain them and if they get a sack or TFL, it should count against the rushing. A sack on a running QB is basically the same as a TFL on a RB.

Create a new stat called Sack yards.

Is the QB not considered a "ball carrier" when he is brought down with the ball in his hands?

:kige:

Doesn't the NFL account for this in the individual rushing statistics by having "Team 4 attempts -20 yards" meaning the QB was sacked 4 times for a loss of 20 yards?

<- This

A QB drops back to make a pass and gets tackled - and that counts against rush yards? it doesn't even make sense.

Unless the rules have changed the NFL deducts sack yardage from passing yardage.

I think college should be the same. Braxton Miller would have nearly 1600 yards rushing if this was the case.

Not nearly as dumb as the NFL pass interference rule making it a spot foul no matter where the foul occurred.

so what do you want to happen when a qb drops back to pass, gets rushed and scrambles to gain a few yards? where should the yards he gained go? according to you they shouldn't be rushing yards since he dropped back to pass.

Yea I was thinking the same thing, maybe they should just be scramble yards as a total, in other words a whole new stat line with the plus from positive rushes minus the sacks. In a couple of years we will know what a good number is for all types of Qbs.
Rushing yards will be figured by all other positions but the QB.

When you have 120 team scorekeepers you won't get an accurate sack count. Plus you have the option in CFB. That further confuses things.

So it's better to keep it how it is: any tackle behind the LOS is a negative running play.

No, the NFL subtracts sack yardage from passing yards. "Team" rushes are for fumbled snaps and other strange plays.

My objection in high school and college is that it kills quarterback's rushing stats.
