How is this site for an independent investor just starting out with no investing experience? Is it a good site to learn about stock trading, analysis of companies, tips on which stocks/ETFs to buy etc.?

Also how do they they compare to Motley Fool (which also seems like a place an inexperienced investor would start at)?

Too much information. There is some good stuff but it's hard to tell what is believable vs. agenda is trying to push. For instance someone will have what you think is a great article with stats to back up claims then commenters rip it apart and then you don't know what to believe. Two sides to every story I guess.

Seeking Alpha is a really good website to get conference call transcripts from. If you're going for basic market commentary I'd do Alphaville before Seeking Alpha.

LINK

Their commentary is still better than anything you'd find on the mainstream finance sites.

There's a ton of information, a lot of it terrible, but I've found it to be a useful tool - especially when looking for varying views surrounding the basket of stocks I trade. As long as its just part of your total information source I recommend it. As you dig around it, you'll discover some of the better contributors and focus on them. And not just the ones who support your line of thinking, but guys who are consistently making sound calls have made me rethink several moves that would have hit me pretty hard.

After reading several articles and jumping in, I've been watching my BBEP, QRE and LRR slide. All pay dividends of plus 10%, but will they hold up?

I was researching LINN which brought me to the site.
