New Orleans tight end Jimmy Graham has moved back into sole possession of the league lead in dropped passes.

According to ESPN Stats & Information, Graham has dropped 11 passes. He entered Sunday’s game with Tampa Bay tied for the league lead with New England’s Wes Welker with 10 drops.

New Orleans running back Darren Sproles is tied for third with nine drops and teammate Marques Colston has six drops. Graham, Sproles and Colston are a large part of the reason the Saints are third in the league with 35 drops as a team.

We know now Graham needs wrist surgery. If mathematical elimination happens I'd prefer they do it sooner than after the season.

Colston was dinged to start the season.

Sproles and Moore haven't had this as an issue before.

These have hurt along with Brees pressing perhaps too much. The good news is that there is no reason to think it is an ongoing problem like with roddy white.

Biggest drop was Moore against Atlanta. And didn't Sproles drop a sure TD in a game early in the season? Or was that Lance too? I've tried to erase the first 4 games from memory.

He has, but in his defense he has to have the shorterst arms in the league. Maybe 2nd to T Holiday. The pass over the middle to Sproles would have gained 40+ yards but was just out of his reach. He is the opposite of guys like Colston and Graham as far as reach. Drew has to pretty much hit him perfectly for him to make the catch.

It seems to me that this is one of those stats that can't be taken completely at face value. In order to lead the league in drops, you need to be getting targeted a lot. Or as a team stat, the team needs to be passing more. A percentage of drops per target or drops per pass attempt might be more telling. We probably aren't doing to great with that stat either though.

yup, why I said I don't think it is a concern going forward.

Yeah, Sproles is another gamer too. No telling what % he is at for catching even after returning from being out.

There's a lotta players that wouldn't return to action near as quick as some of our guys. Remember Colston and the broken collarbone? Dude was back out on the field in an unheard of two weeks!

There's a gamer mentality in this clubhouse that has to be appreciated.

Where do they stand with the most targets? That prob plays a factor in it as well.

I've watched a few games where Graham seems to adjust his gloves right before he catches a ball, and I wonder if this throws him off some. I can't recall seeing it every time but I saw it more than once.

Graham is still learning how to play football. He'll be one of the best if not THE best TE in NFL History by the time his career is over.
