I have two Godiva liqueurs - white chocolate and dark chocolate. Several other liqueurs, just not sure which qualify as "after dinner".
ETA: Kahlua, Cointreau

Chambord - although we haven't had any in a while. I think there is still a bottle in the cabinet.

I always have some port on hand, and some Grand Marnier

Which orange liqueur do you guys prefer? For me, it's Cointreau. But a lot of people seem to prefer Grand Marnier.

Can someone enlighten me to this practice? I grew up in an incredibly rural environment where alcohol was largely taboo and grew into drinking casually. I love beer and bourbon (more the latter than the former), and to me it's just incredibly foreign. I would love to be able to provide this service to people who dine with me, and to appreciate it myself, but I just don't understand it so I don't know where to begin. I figure this is a fantastic place for knowledge to be dropped upon me, so I welcome the input.
I guess the question I'm asking is, what is the function? What flavors should I be looking for? That sort of thing. I'm not opposed to the idea, it's just something I'm exceedingly ignorant about and would like to rectify that gap in my knowledge.
ETA: I don't expect an all-encompassing answer, such as "Have this particular alcohol for all occasions," I'm asking more for the general function and, like the OP, ideas to implement. Especially with ideas like Cointreau or Grand Marnier, most of my experience with them is mostly just as a substitution for other orange liqueurs.

Port is a given
Lately, I've been liking this. It's sweet, but damn, talk about an insomnia cure
