But Chimay "Blue" Grand Reserve Ale is damn good beer. Will do this with a good cigar again sometime...

The only people I've met who dislike Chimay are people who adamantly maintain that Bud Light is a top-5 beer, if not the GOAT.

No shame, brother

Chimay Blue was the beer that introduced me to the world beyond BMC. It is also an excellent beer that is held in high regard by almost everyone.

I honestly can't tell any difference between Chimay Red and Blue. Both are damn good. Try Ommengang Abbey, Westmalle Dubbel, Unibroe Maudite and Brooklyn Local No 2. All are in the trappist dubbel style.

I've always been a Guiness guy, but I'll definitely be trying more Trappist beer in the near future...

Sounds like you are starting to venture out and try new things. This is a great time for craft beer drinkers because there is so much out there that was not available just a few years ago. There is always lots of good beer info being exchanged in the daily FBD threads. Have fun!

I third this recommendation. The cherries really have a subtle presence in the 3 philososphers...enough to let you know its special without overpowering the palatte

Good suggestions that should all be pretty easy to find around here.
