There is no need to fire any shots.

Get a suppressed pistol. Should be no gunfire issues then.

I was behind a guy driving a truck on the campus of Miss. State. A deer crossed the road and the guy went off the road into the grass to hit the deer. It was after midnight and I stopped in the road and the guy got out with an old POS shotgun and was going to shoot the deer.

I told him man I wouldn't do that. It's like a big time crime to shoot on campus or even have a gun. So he grabbed the barrel of the gun and hit the deer in the head with the stock and broke the stock off the gun. He then started beating the shite out of the deer with the barrel. I just got in my truck and left.

Say I hit a deer, wound it inside the city limits, is it against the law to shoot it to put out of its misery? Heard conflicting stories.

You're hearing conflicting stories because the laws, the interpretation and the application of those laws all vary. Yes, in most cities it will not only be illegal to discharge a firearm inside city limits. In addition, in most areas it will be illegal to discharge a firearm close to an improved road (the distance can vary). Bottom line, if this happens to me in a town I don't live in, I'm going to call 911 and ask them for permission to humaely put the deer down. If they won't give permission, I guess they'll then have to dispatch a LEO to take care of it.

I drive to fast to worry about having to put the deer down, I'd be more worried about how I'm going to get this deer out of my engine block
