Appropriate or not?

Harborview Elementary School students watch teacher Josh Jackson skin and process a deer on Monday. The deer, hit by a vehicle last summer, was kept frozen by the Department of Fish & Game for the teaching experience.

Yes
I would say very appropriate in places like the South, Midwest and especially Alaska.

They have an outdoor program for middle school kids too, where they teach target recognition, outdoor skills. Used to have a shooting range in the middle school.
Just wondering how long it will be for the politically correct to take over and have this stopped.

I have no problem with it . Funny thing how things have gotten so pussified . When I was in High school , some of us would take our shot guns to school on Fridays . I would spend the weekend at my cousins and ride the bus home with them on Fridays . During hunting season I would take my gun to school and the teacher would make sure it was unloaded and stand it in the corner . Never was a big deal .

No different than dissecting something in biology.
My uncle teaches PE and covers fishing and archery as part of his curriculum.

Our school had a butcher shop and we would go help process deer and hogs. It's where I learned how to handle deer at.
Stuff like this is dieing out in this country. The yuppies think all animals just fall over dead and cleaning and processing them is not a bloody job.

Several of the neighborhood kids plus my nieces will come over and watch when I clean a mess of fish. Its something they have never seen before usually and just fascinates them. Kind of wierd, but the girls seem to be more interested than the boys most of the time.

When I taught LA history to 8th graders, I taught them how to shoot the bows the P.E. dept had in the back of a closet.
I had to get all kinds of permission slips from their parents to do it. I can't imagine the red tape I'd have had to go through to bring in a dead deer.
