Me and the soon-to-be are registering for cookware but don't know much about it. I cook, but have just used whatever has been given to me.
What brands have a good rep and hold up the best for everyday cooking?

What style of cooking do you usually do?

Soups, searing, roasting, frying. More stove top than anything else. I probably use a large frying pan more than anything else

I highly recommend that you do not go with a matched set. You'll end up using only half of it. Register individual pots, pans, knives, etc.

I've registered for some le creuset pots which I know I like. Just not sure on what pans I should get

I like all-clad and have heard good things. My future MIL has claphalon and she says it has worn down pretty quick

I use a lot of cast iron but the 13" All Clad French Skillet with lid is on my Christmas list...

Completely agree - especially if it's a nonstick set. I don't get that at all.
Here's what I have:
-A couple of nonstick skillets
-1 large skillet
-Le Creuset round dutch oven (this is a must have)
-2 large heavy sauce pans
-1 small sauce pan
-1 large fry pan w/ lid
-1 stock pot
-2 cast iron skillets
Thinking about a wok, but can't really justify it.

I love my wok and use it a lot. Veggies that are stir fried in a wok come out so brightly colored and crisp that even Lucy will eat them.

Do you mean what sizes? These are our most-used pans:
12" skillet/omelette pan (We have one hard-anodized and one cheapish non-stick one for eggs--got it from Sam's for under $30 bucks and it works great)
5 qt saute pan (like a frying pan but with a 3" straight side)
2 1/2 qt. sauce pan
4 qt sauce pan
5-6 qt dutch oven
16 qt stock pot
Our main set is stainless steel Calphalon (received a set as a wedding present), and then a bunch of hard-anodized Calphalon that I picked up on clearance when I worked at Dillard's. We've had most of it for 10-15 years and it's held up well, IMO. All-Clad seems to be well-made too.
I like cast-iron & enameled cast-iron, but their weight makes them hard for me to clean.
ETA: To start off, I'd go with one large dutch oven, a good heavy saucepan, and a skillet. As others have said, you don't need a matching set because you may not use some of those pans ever. IMO, go for quality and get the pieces you think you'd use most frequently, and replace your old cheaper pans one at a time.

No, just what brands hold up the best and what is good quality. I usually cook with larger skillets

That's a good start. A 12-inch chef's pan is another essential. My own preference is for stainless steel with a heavy clad aluminum bottom for even heat distribution. Avoid non-stick cookware; no matter how expensive, the coating will wear off in a few years.

Have a set of All Clad and love it.

Not to hijack but I need a stock pot and two sauce pans. Can someone make a recommendation on what brand to go with and a particular line that they may have. I don't know if All Clad has different type of stainless steel pans and pots.
TIA

If I had to get a new Stock pot... I'd be looking at McWare. Google Cajun Classic McWare
