The whole situation hinges on exactly what was said by the Liberty Bowl to him on that second conversation (did they indeed say they were taking LaTech no matter what or did they merely reinforce what they had been telling LaTech - that they're in unless a Big12 team was available?)

IF this is indeed the case, that is extremely fricked up for Tech.

Is that press release suppose to make him look better? I think it actually makes him look worse. He overplayed his hand and got burned.

yep

but that doesn't matter to anyone here

they will just say Tech was arrogant and trying to be a big boy, or whatever

The bolded part is what is wrong with your statement. With these high of stakes you always get it in writing. I'm sure the school and the bowls pass a lot of misinformation around to get the best deal possible.

In some respects I agree, and it's his job to cover his bases, So Louisiana Tech definitely screwed up there , but it's still pretty shitty and at the very least "mitigating" (lessens the blame deserved by the AD) if the Liberty bowl told them that they were in guaranteed

If it was guaranteed then why not do the needed paperwork and make it official? It isn't guaranteed until the paperwork is signed and I don't care what has been said or was promised.

yeah, I do have a problem with this as well

if they told me it was guaranteed, I say "great, let's get the paperwork together", if they don't want to do that, then their "guarantee" should have been questioned.

This AD sounds like the kind of guy that lets his wife balance his checkbook for him...

Dear La Tech:

You were the third place in the WAC. You were lucky to be even sniffing a bowl game and the fact you told a bowl committee that you wanted to wait for a prettier prom date is hysterical by itself. The payout for the Liberty and Independence Bowl is comparable ($1.7m per team vs. $1.1m per team in 2011). Maybe it's time to admit you really\, really, really did not want to play ULM.

I will be waiting for the lawsuit against the Liberty Bowl for breach of contract since Tech was being selected regardless of whether a Big 12 school was available, but I will not hold my breath.
