I let the "crunchy vegetables" thing go so as not to argue but a green onion a half hour in a hot gumbo is far from crunchy.

Does seem pretty hypocritical. I don't know that I've ever bought a jug of Italian dressing but ole Carson gave it a whirl and was happy with the result. That's all that matters.

IWEI

This is the food board which is, naturally, is full of food snobs that refuse to use Italian out of a bottle, etc.. but it looks like it would be pretty good as long as it isn't overcooked.

One thing, to my unrefined redneck arse, is the Italian dressing. Try Good Seasons and make your own fresh dressing.

LINK

You can buy for a lot less than my link, you can even get a starter kit with the dressing mix packets with a cruet at Wally world fro less than $20

Better than bottled for sure.

Carson,

frick all that noise. You can't do anything nice for people anymore. If it tastes good, and doesn't get anybody sick, that's all that matters.

Some older people said it was good!

I used bottled dressing to make my favorite simple summer salad. Slice cucumbers very thinly, put a layer in the container, heavily salt & pepper. Add a layer of thinly sliced (or even diced) tomatoes and heavily salt & pepper. Add a layer of thinly sliced red onions and then start the layers all over (lots of salt & pepper). Pour dressing all over and shake up the (now) covered container. Chill for a few hours to give the flavors time to blend.

The bottled dressing HAS to be Wishbone Robusto. Has. to. be.

This is the td.com food and drink board. Nothing short of beef wellington is acceptable.

i know i am not laughing at him .. i am laughing at the pretentious food board troll in the middle of this thread that is still trying to play the "i am the most refined foodie on this board and most of what all of you guys eat is below my standards" schtick ... he still comes in here to make comments after he made his FIRST gumbo in his life in Louisiana last week .. if you are a true foodie and live here, you should have been whipping out quality gumbos like instant mashed potatoes since your childhood ... then, he posts a pictorial on the making of his gumbo in here and it was .. to put it nicely .. less than impressive .. particularly for someone that trolls threads in here with a high atop mount olympus attitude ..

Huge pita and not worth the trouble, IMO.

Next time I'm boiling the tenderloin in milk and serving with some quality jelly beans.

carson's dish looked fine to me .. it was the "frozen chicken and italian dressing .. two things you will never find in my kitchen" comment in the thread .. then the guy fricks up his first-ever gumbo ... at least we don't have to take him seriously anymore ..

i don't know what was funnier .. the way his gumbo looked (more like chicken and vegetable soup), or the way a lot of the people that the guy has looked down his nose at on this board handled their comments toward his gumbo with kid gloves .. how did he make his sausage look like fricking deer droppings ?
