You are one seriously stupid motherfricker.

Ladies and gents, this is the same "gay" guy who said that gay teens who were bullied into depression and suicide at "gay therapy" camps "deserve it for being weak." Pay no heed.

re: West Point chapel to host first same-sex marriage

I don't see why this is news. I really don't care. Two people who apparently love each other are making a commitment. I can't understand how two individuals of the same sex are attracted to each other, but I'm not going to chastise someone else who feels different. But at the same time this is no more "news" than my cousin getting married to some one of the opposite sex 2 weeks ago.

Look at some of the homophobic comments in this thread. It's news because it is progress towards something that should have been legal across the US already. I agree this SHOULDN'T be news because it should be normal for a gay couple to marry. When a gay marriage in Louisiana/Mississippi is considered non-news, it will mean society has progressed a long way. Catch my drift?

Oh I get your point. But making this news will only build resentment. Some people who would normally silently accept it will not handle it being forced down their throats. In 20 years it'll be normal and am afterthought. Major societal changes can't be forced.

Meh, I don't think the government should be legislating who we can and cannot love.

But let's be frank, this issue isn't about love. It's about taxes and benefits. Oh, I'm sure you'll go off on something like visitation rights of a sick spouse and sure that's an issue, but if you're being honest it's really about taxes and benefits.

Heterosexual marriage tax favorability and benefits exist because we can pro-create and raise children. I know this isn't politically correct, but it's the truth. Heterosexual couples deserve these distinctions so we can continue to provide these benefits to society.

Government has no place in romance and no place in church.

Would you guys stop bitching like this is a major issue if you were allowed to go to a courthouse, get some papers that say you're officially a homosexual couple that loves each other, and obtain survivability / estate tax avoidance and gain visitation rights in a hospital?

For frick's sakes the nation's economy is crumbling and the middle east is degrading into a wartime situation. This is not our biggest issue right now.

For some reason every gay marriage thread has the tone of OMG the government isn't going to allow us to love one another as we see fit!!! when in actuality, it's that the government just doesn't want to legally sanctify the union.

Or rather, it's about having the same rights as straight people.

1. Gay marriage isn't going to extinct our species so that argument is moot

2. Gays can adopt. They can give a child that possibly comes from an unfortunate background and give them a good home.

If they could do that anywhere then that would be a major step forward. Unfortunately, they can't even do that. Plus, what is so bad about gays having a normal marriage ceremony? Nobody says it has to be in a church. Where do atheists get married?

It's about equal rights. I don't see how this is so complicated. Btw, you are part of the problem...part of the reason why this is news.

That's not progress, it's advocating more discrimination against single people...

Singles don't get the tax breaks, visitation rights or benefits from federal jobs

Then you advocate the same rights for single people?

Personally, I'm just pissed that it's an issue at all. I support gay marriage, but it's far from a pressing issue of our day. It's just another wedge issue that insults the intelligence of humanity, gay and straight (probably deserved) and deflects from FAR more important issues.
quote:

I agree this SHOULDN'T be news for the above reasons. Unfortunately, the republicans have to resist it or their base will hang them. The issue has been cultivated by the left for this reason.
[quote]Catch my drift?
frick you.

Does the left have anything to run on but social issues? Don't you think that your reality TV-like adherence to social issues is not only playing to the lowest common denominator, but expanding it? Do you think that repeatedly telling minorities and everyone else that racism/classism/sexism is the reason for EVERYTHING that stands in their way isn't going to bring about some really dire, violent consequences. Are you aware that your frenzied, juvenile tactics do exactly the opposite of what you claim they are supposed to do - divide rather than unite? Finally, if you do know all of that, how the frick do you sleep at night?

Even your fiscal platforms are just repackaged social issues. "Punish the rich." Simple math defeats the most basic tenets of your classist proposals, but you continue to hammer them just so you can get elected and with no regard to the long-term consequences.

I hope the angry mob you're cultivating comes and gets you along with all of the imagined "evil" people whom you claim are the reason for all the ills of the world. I hope you die with your democrat voter ID card in your hand, screaming "No. See? I'm one of the good ones. Don't get me. Get those other guys." Then, maybe just for an instant, you'll see what a true disease your "philosophy" really is.

But, something tells me that would suit you just fine. After all, we can't have people of different races, cultures and sexual orientations getting friendly with each other. If they did, they might come to a common understanding and implement policies that go against your oh so golden "plan."

That's a pretty serious accusation, man. I'm gonna have to get a link to that and I hope for your sake that you can provide one.

Sorry, clerical error. Sorry for the "frick you" as well, but I really do believe that the left with all of their (your?) constant, divisive rhetoric are building a monster that destroys true, meaningful debate and will eventually, completely erode society.
