I have listed all of the losses below. I have listed them from inexcusable to excusable

1. 2009 Ole Miss-clock it
2. 2008 Ole Miss-on fourth qb
3. 2008 Arkansas-Petrinos first year
4. 2012 Alabama-no d
5. 2012 Florida-no o
6. 2008 Georgia-two pick sixes
7. 2008 Alabama-4 picks
8. 2011 Alabama-national title rematch
9. 2010 Arkansas-BCS bid on the line
10. 2007 Kentucky-Charles Scott had over 100 yds rushing in first half, doesn't see ball till last play of game
11. 2007 Arkansas-Matt Flynn had turrible game and bad D in OT
12. 2009 Florida-No o
13. 2010 Penn State--cluster frick field
14. 2005 Tennessee-Monday night game
15. 2005 Georgia-tired after 11 weeks straight
16. 2006 Auburn-screwed on pass int no call
17. 2006 Florida-won title
18. 2009 Alabama-won title
19. 2008 Florida-won title
20. 2010 Auburn-won title

I give Les a mulligan for 2005 with Hurricane Katrina and his first year. 2006 we lost to two teams on the road ranked in the top 5 at the time. One of them won the title. 2007 had two triple OT games and still won the title with those losses. 2008 we had 4 qb's and a shitfest at D due to Mallveto. First gripe I had with Les not going after a big name DC to replace Pelini after the NC game and getting a huge raise. 2009 lost to two teams that were ranked #1 when we played them. Also had that horrible game against Ole Piss. If we just run the ball, we kick the FG and win after the onside kick. Decided to get stupid and throw the ball. 2010 had a few close calls with Tennessee and Florida. Had the ball leading Auburn on the road in the 4th and couldn't close the deal. Lost to Arkansas with a BCS bowl on the line. 2011 was great except the NC game. Wouldn't have matter who was the qb we were going to lose. This year if not for injuries and suspensions I think we would be playing for the SEC CG no doubt. Too much to overcome.

I know, TLDR, GTFO, PIIHB

is there a coach out there that would get us over the hump to domination (multiple BCS titles)

It's hard to win multiple titles, buddy. Since scholarships were reduced there have been very few multiple national championship coaches. Looks like it's Saban or bust if you're dissatisfied with Miles. Why don't you call Nick and get the talks started?

His offenses have been ugly and not entertaining to watch.

Saban is doing better. At Bama.

Those are the main reasons. Others:

Just two SEC titles.
2006 team was ultra talented but did not win the West.

The Root of the Les Criticism

Simple answer....

1. The Hat (or at least the way he wears it)
2. The strange things he says in press conferences and his mannerisms

Thats as deep as it gets. Some will attempt to throw other irrelevant shite in there but theres your answer.

Take away those two things and he is looked at in the same light as Saban, Carroll, M Brown, B Stoops, U Meyer, or any other coach you care to name. Wins and Losses are ALL that matter in the big picture. Then if you want to compare all the elite coaches, national titles come into play.

You, in your own mind may rank Miles at or near the bottom of "elite" coaches, be he IS an elite coach nonetheless.

The root of the problem is some fans compare Miles to Saban and any other top five teams coaches (at any given time). These fans are called Negatigers. Positigers compare Miles to every coach in LSU history. We are an elite program so it seems natural to have this split in fans. It seems like a good problem to have. I am glad that the A.D. and Miles are not getting advice from message boards.

ETA: It is an argument that no one can win because it is really two totally different arguments.

2006 Auburn
2011 Alabama
2012 Alabama

Yeah, I can see the case for it. Can you imagine how dominant this program would be had they gone the other way? 3 national titles and playing our way into a fourth. If these go the other way then Miles is undoubtedly the most accomplished football coach in the game today and the greatest in LSU history.

So close.

But I'm not really sure that anyone that's available would do any better or even get close.

How about losing to Saban so Saban can win his multiple championships at our expense. The last 2 losses to Ala. have been very, very painful to witness. The BCS title game was a complete joke offensively and the conservative play calling w chance to secure victory this year was heartbreaking and frustrating as well. That's my criticism as well. He wins when he should and that's a bonus no matter how frustrating it is to watch. Having a QB that can throw and run when needed is what we are lacking to be a championship team. That's obvious.

is he is not Nick Saban.

I'm thinking there are at least 2-3 losses over the Miles tenure that have potentially costs either a title or a shot at a title

"ones we let get away" that leads to my frustration at times

That's understandable, but lots of other teams could say the same thing. Do you think Spurrier was a good coach at Florida? He "only" won 1 NC. Got blown out in a NCG even worse than Miles. Lost close games that had he won would have put in in position to win a NC. How many close games to Miami did Bowden lose that cost him a shot at a NC? So far the only coach to win 3 NC's in 4 years is Tom Osborne. He won his first in his 22nd year as Nebraska HC. How many Final Fours dod Coach K go to before he won it?
Winning a NC is hard. All you can ask for is the team to be in a position to win, which Les has done. Yeah, he's lost some close one's that rip out your stomach. But he's also won plenty like that as well (Auburn 07, Bama 11/5/11). Focus on those and look forward to the future.

You guys are complaining about a coach not being able to win a BCSNC every year, something that only has been done 3 other times in the HISTORY of LSU football!!! Oh and BTW CLM is responsible for one of those, though many of yall love to give Saban credit for that one! The fact of the matter is Les Miles is a great coach! Matter of fact, the fact that we were in position to beat Bama and contend this year after losing the best player on your team, arguably your team leader, all of the injuries on the line, losing your best running back in Blue! After all of this he still managed to win 10 games! who else has had to go through that kind of attrition, and only loss 2 games? This INMHO is the single best coaching job of his tenure at LSU! Theres more to coaching than x and os, gameplanning, etc. theres also recruiting, motivation, preparing your team, week in and week out! Some are good at some, others are not. Its the balance of all of them that makes you a great coach! Look at the schedule, LSU plays! i would argue that if Bama plays either UG or FLA from the east, Bama is not in Atlanta this year! CLM is a great coach, and if that midget wasnt residing in Tuscaloosa, were not even having this conversation! Yeah hes quirky, doesnt go by the book all the time, but thats what i like about him. Yall act like its easy to go undefeated every year and most of us know its not! its time to recognize the accomplishments of this man, and give him his credit where credit is due! You would be hardpressed to find anyone in the country to duplicate what this guy has done and to win games in the manner that hes had to! BTW if CLM is not the coach in 2007, we dont win the BCSNC that year! So lets stop comparing him to the gohst of Saban, and give CLM his props! He's damn well earned it!

The root of the criticism is a direct comparison to Saban and Bama. People forget that nobody matches up to Saban. Les is the closest CFB has got but that isn't good enough for many.

There has to be a turning point. I may be off on this, but two games come to mind: the miscues in the Ole Miss game and the UT game.

I think speech and manner have alot to do with not buying into Les despite the relative success for many. It's brutal at times both in clarity and manner.

I know it was the biggest thing for me to get over and following 2008, 2009 and the first part of 2010 which I considered disappointing seasons Les had even more to overcome.

But he has overcome it, and I want to appreciate it, but it's still a struggle for me...just being honest.

I've never called for him to be fired and never will, but I'll probably never be the rah-rah guy that loves the peculiar rants and I probably never will.

And so what.
