What happened last year?

Last year, Drew had more yards, completions, TD's, and completion %, and still didn't win.

Edit: Dammit Breesus! Beat me to it.

i thought rodgers had way less interceptions than brees and he sat out an entire game...I think drew has gotten the shaft as well, but Rodgers was the clear cut winner last year

the year manning beat him is the travesty

Well my actual problem is that he's not even being MENTIONED in the running and once again, the media seems to have determined their choice midway through the season. I can't believe we're really going to give Manning his 5th.

It's like it's always going to be one guy ahead of him.

This year it's Manning.

If the Saints win out tho, that is still too hard to pass up.

I get that, but the team is 5-5 and while that feels great, MVPs usually don't play on 5-5 teams. I don't think there should be any discussion. 5-5. As the saints continue to win, the MVP support will rise.

Sadly, it wont.

He couldnt win it shattering records on a 13-3, divisional winning season. He wont do it this year man.

Bad timing. Rodgers deserved the award last year but I do agree that he will get shafted even if we do win out.

I'm just excited he has a chance to mount an unprecedented season turnaround and make a historic run to shove a middle finger in goodell's face.

What it will take. Two 5 TD games to put him on pace for another record ( Brady's). Winning out and grabbing a PO spot

The only way I see him winning the Most Valuable Player. Sad, winning out should make him an absolute lock.

Drew Brees Last 8 games
195-300, 65.0%, 2402 yds, 8.0 ypa, 24 TDs, 5 Ints, 109.3 QBR (basic equivalent of entire 2009 and 2011 seasons for QBR)

Last 8 games of 2011 regular season
226-314, 71.2%, 2730 yds, 8.7 ypa, 27 TDs, 4 Ints, 121.6 QBR (his best stretch of football ever in his career)

It's a crime that Drew has not won one yet.
While this is true, I have to sit and think...is he the single biggest reason the Saints have climbed back to relevance this year? I would say almost...but it's the newfound dedication to run the football.

On the other hand, without Drew Brees, this team is 0-10.

INTs happened last year, which is why AR won it, which is why i included INTs in my post and conveniently, you didnt.

If Brees leads the league in the categies i mentioned, while taking us from 0-4 to the playoffs, that's undeniably an MVP performance. No way he wont win it. Its a slam dunk.

I just think its unlikely that all of it will happen with our defense. ....but it is Drew Brees we're talking about, so its hard to write it off.

frick it. People will look back and see names like Rodgers, Brady, and Manning next to an achievement given out once a year. No big deal. But next to the records that has taken time and generations to break Drew will have his name there. MVP is over rated in comparison to the other milestones set by Drew.

Correct. MVP is a popularity contest, like the Heisman.

Brees' records are earned on the field.

Seconds remaining in the half...Saints are in long field goal range (maybe???)...it's 3rd and 13 Snap to Brees...feeling pressure, he dances and moves forward in the pocket buying time to allow Lance Moore to burst long...Brees throws as he's hit...SCORE! SAINTS TOUCHDOWN!

When that play took place right there I had a feeling come over me that this guy is the best QB that has played his position in the NFL. He doesn't have the most awards, Super Bowls, etc. but he IS the best ever.

That's my 2 frikkin' cents.

Who cares about MVP's? If he couldn't win it in 2009 and last year, then who cares. We have a Hall of Fame QB, but we NEED the running game to continue thriving forward for a chance to win out and make the playoffs. The running game, does nothing but open up the play action for Brees, increasing his completion % and cutting down the Ints. He can throw for 250yrds per game and 2 tds, as long as we win out and go far in the playoffs the fans should be happy.
