Other interesting name origin:
Marshall Tucker Band took the name of a Spartanburg-area piano tuner.
Jethro Tull got their name from an inventor in agriculture in the 18th-century.
One of the most successful groups in country music is the Statler Brothers, who named themselves after a brand of facial tissue.

Why do so many people think Lynyrd Skynyrd is the lead singer of Lynyrd Skynyrd?
Never heard this before. Stop hanging around idiots.
Also, Steely Dan is a band, not a person.

quote:Nice try. Everyone knows Bob Geldof is the lead singer. Pink is the guitarist.
Pink Floyd is a better singer.

And Alice Cooper wasn't a person but a group. Then the lead singer eventually became Alice Cooper.

Led Zeppelin was a far superior singer than all these wannabees.

Hey Cottonwasking, I stand corrected, at least I had it right, he was a teacher. They might have been sarcastic on what I heard them say about Skynyrd on TV.

My dad is a HUGE skynyrd fan. I've had these facts pounded into my head since birth

Didn't read any posts, but this title immediatley made me think
"and by the way, which one's Pink?"
Probably already said, still needs to be said again

Now Jethro Tull was a singer. He could play some mean flute too.
if not known:
Pink Floyd was named after-
and
two Piedmont style blues players in Syd Barrett's LP collection

I have literally NEVER met anyone who thought this.

same here, should change the title to bands named after people discussion
another-
Molly Hatchet- any search will say after a legendary southern prostitute that murdered her clients (Flirting With Disaster). Just legend though. Prolly came from Carrie Nation. At the turn of the century she was a radical leader of the temperance movement. She was arrested 30 times for going into bars wielding a hatchet and demolishing all their goods.
and
Franz Ferdinand was a Duke whose assassination sparked the start of World War I

Well I've always had a deep respect,
And I mean that most sincere.
The band is just fantastic,
That is really what I think.
Oh by the way, which one's Pink?

Is it too late to also point out how much better of a singer Hootie became after he left the Blowfish?

What about Jethro Tull and 38 Special, aren't they related?
