Camellia recipe on the package. Tried and true. Note that they don't recommend soaking the beans.

Never seen beans that weren't soaked cook in a to 1 1/2 hours. I call BS on that recipe.

Not sure how long of a soak you do/need. Personally, I get to work and put them on soak for 5:30, heat on at 6:30, on the plate between 8:30 and 9:00. Not quite 1.5hrs, but the beans are creamy in 2hrs. I could see people who like creamy beans being ready at 1.5hrs.

Boil gently 1-1/2 hours or until tender.

I start checking after an hour and a half and almost always cook them longer.

Easy method of soaking. Put beans in pot, cover with water one inch above the level of the beans and bring to boil. Turn off heat and let sit covered for an hour. Replace water and start cooking.

Red beans can be cooked in under an hour in a pressure cooker. Fact.

True dat, and you can have a sister that doesn't depressurize the pot before twisting off the pots lid. Beans on your cieling are a bitch to clean off, but you and your grandmother get one hell of a laugh
