To play the devils advocate, why would he make up an affair story to resign and tarnish his reputation then?

The Administration has known about the affair for awhile, according to the retired General on Fox. They chose to let the hammer fall, right before he goes under oath on Benghazi....this is a conspiracy...Most corrupt administration, maybe ever....

I remember thinking a couple of weeks ago - "Why hasn't Petraeus fought back a little, other than the behind the scenes stuff on Benghazi. Obama can't muzzle him." I was wrong.
