LSU Tiger commitment Tre'davious White is obviously a very good football player. But at White's U.S. Army All-American ceremony, the overwhelming theme at Green Oaks High School was about his off-the-field attributes.
Green Oaks principal Marvin Alexander talked about how White has a 4.0 grade point average and will be his class' valedictorian, while Green Oaks head football coach Spencer Heard talked about White's work ethic and leadership abilities.
"He's a very humble person; he leads by example," the coach said. "He has God-given abilities but his work ethic is tremendous I think that's what makes him special is the work ethic that he has."
White played quarterback and cornerback, but he doesn't know what position he'll play at LSU, nor does he care.
Tre'Davious White was lauded by school officials for more than on-field accomplishments.
"They still have me labeled as an athlete as far I know," White said. "But I really don't try to focus on things I can't control, so I'm just working at receiver and DB ? whenever I do get to Baton Rouge I will be ready for whatever position they put me at." Heard said White could play a number of position for the Tigers, but wherever LSU decides to put him, he will make an impact.
"He probably be a defensive back or potentially a receiver," Heard said. "Whichever way they want to use him he is going to be a very effective tool. They can plug into a couple of spots wherever they might need."
When you ask White about the Tigers, his face lights up and there is little doubt why.
"That's my team, that's (my) home state school. I love LSU; that's where I want to be, that's my family."
This past weekend, White attended LSU's game against Alabama in Baton Rouge and came away from the game impressed and ready to suit up for the Tigers.
"It was a good game, a good atmosphere, it was something I was ready for; I could see myself playing there."
White was recruited by LSU tight ends coach Steve Ensminger and says that Ensminger has been someone he could call and ask anything.
"We talk all the time, at least once a week, it's always (a) good conversation," White said. "It's not always about sports. It's about things after sports and after football. That's the biggest thing I like about coach Ensminger. He's a nice guy and he's somebody you could talk to about anything as far as the recruitment process. He's always there to talk to. I feel real comfortable with him."
Meanwhile, LSU head coach Les Miles also has positive words for White.
"Every time I see Coach Miles, it's always a pretty good thing. He always say I look like (former LSU DB) Morris Claiborne and we resemble each other a lot and I remind him of him." If White performs anywhere close to Claiborne, LSU will be thrilled he stayed close to home.
Mo 2.0
Huge pull by Steve Ensminger

Green Oaks is historically one of the worst schools in Caddo Parish. That said, it is a huge accomplishment for Tre to stay out of trouble and excel on and off the field.

I think White and Corey Thompson are going to be special players in the secondary for LSU over the next few years. Great people and really glad they are representing the Tigers and my university positively!
