I've never used crepe myrtle in my fireplace, but if you just lost the tree in Isaac, it's still to green to burn and it's going to smoke a lot. I prefer to burn firewood aged at least one year.

It was a relatively small tree, so no splitting required on the branches I kept.
I was wondering what kind of mammoth crepe myrtle we were talking about here. If it doesn't burn well, you shouldn't have much to dispose of.
The Bradford Pear tree in my backyard split mid-afternoon through Isaac. I will never again let that shite be planted in my current yard, nor any future yards I may own. I am glad that it's gone. It was at the end of its life expectancy, and I felt pretty confident that it would split in the wind.
Unbelievable amount of branches. Seemed like a good excuse to buy a chainsaw. Hindsight, I wish I had just paid somebody to come and take the shite away...

Oak is pretty much the best shite ever for firewood. It splits well and burns good.
I have three bradford pears in my yard. The wood is soft enough that when I trim it I just grab the limbs and break them off. No pole saw needed. And the flowers stink in the spring. I'll never buy another one as long as I live.
