Chevy Chase had another outburst, this time featuring the N-word. It appears that the tirade was not addressed at Black cast members Donald Glover or Yvette Nicole Brown. People close to the situation say that Chase had been increasingly frustrated and uncomfortable with the direction of his character, Pierce, who is a bigot. After getting fed more lines he found offensive during a scene yesterday, I hear he snapped and launched the tirade, airing his frustration and suggesting that the way things with Pierce are going, he may next be asked to call Troy (Glover) or Shirley (Brown) the N-Word.

Seems like he didn't have a racially charged tirade, and took up for himself and his friends. From what I gather he was pissed with the way they were more and more making his character a bigot.

Still probably shouldn't be throwing around n-words, even if you're just trying to prove a point. Especially in the presence of at least two African Americans.

He threatened to quit, no one cared, and he (obviously) ended up staying.

He conducted himself poorly (surprise, surprise) but I'm entirely sympathetic to his position. He's been written into a really difficult spot. I don't think he actively wants to be "That Guy," but he's done it for three seasons and to the point that his character has become pretty one-dimensional. He should be able to pushback against that, especially when that one dimension is so egregiously offensive.

Chevy Chase still sucks.

Chevy is a character actor. He never breaks his a-hole character.

Misleading thread title

Chase always seems to be nit-picking his "character's direction or motivation" - he should just be happy he's collecting a paycheck. Community is great but it's TV comedy...you're not doing Shakespeare Chevy. Stop analyzing and STFU.

He famously dropped the N bomb on Richard Pryor in a sketch back in the Ol' SNL days...so whats the difference?

I actually love his character. He's one of my favorite actors. I don't care if he's a bitch to work with. I'll never have to work with him.

None of what he reportedly said even remotely resembles a "racially charged tirade", what an incredibly misleading title.
Thread title sounds like something that would come from Mel Gibson, not Chase. If anything, Chase was defending his fellow actors from what he felt was an inappropriate direction to take the character, and the show.

The idea he cant even mention the "n-word" is absurd - especially in this context.

The thread title is the article's headline.
