Taking the parents and kids for a special trip to NYC in December. I need some recommendations for a few nice, fancy, out of this world dinners (without kids) to take our parents for a special treat.

Any advice is appreciated - we will be staying in the SoHo area.

Per Se is Thomas Kellers. Del Posto is the Bastianichs and Mario Batali. Both great if you really want to step out.

I sent a business associate and her husband to Gramercy Tavern a while back. I heard no complaints, but I'll check in to see if I can get a detailed report.

i ate here a couple weeks ago. very good and highly recommend it. i think i mentioned it on here before but we ran into ruffin rodrigue. cool arse dude. we opted for the seven course tasting menu. also they have a great beer list.

morimoto is another really good one if you like sushi. also did the tasting menu and tried tons of things i would not normally eat.

both of them were very pricey but worth it imo.

Le Bernardin, Eric Ripert's restaurant. Best meal I've ever had. Bring money.

My recommendation as well. I got to eat there on someone else's dime. Pretty fricking good. They'll even give you a tour of the kitchen if you ask. I've seen sterile science labs dirtier than that kitchen.

Four Seaons, the restaurant, not the hotel.

Katz's Deli, 205 E. Houston Street, Manhattan

I know it is not fancy but they make the best Reuben sandwitches and your wife will get a kick out of it. Its the same deli they filmed

I will agree with Le Bernadin and the Four Seasons.
I will also add Daniel, Balthazar, and Chez Josephine to the list. Chez Josephine primarily for the atmosphere although the food has improved over the last few years, but it's certainly memorable.

If you want out of this world event dining in NYC, then you want to go to:
Daniel
Le Bernardin - sea food focus
Jean Georges
Del Posto high end Italian

These are all (I think) Michelin three star restaurants. While I doubt you'd want to eat at these places regularly, they are the quintessential "event" restaurants and I doubt you will be disappointed. Bring money and make your reservations soon. Depending on when you'll be in NY, you're probably approaching the window to book a table. Have fun and let us know how it goes.

Eleven Madison Park has become a fricking circus IMO since the ownership change and I doubt I will ever eat there again.

i've been hearing about Roberta's forever in Bushwich, but i've yet to talk to anybody that's actually been there, i'm going to try it next time i'm in town. i want to go for the adventure deep into the hood.
