Wow. Maybe that will get NASCAR's arse in gear about these plate tracks. I know people like the big one, but it makes for shitty race outcomes. What could they do about?

They tried to fix it with the smaller fuel cells and grill openings to break the packs up. The racing sucked. Maybe bigger plates or something to just slow them down? dunno

I think his history with head injuries had more to do with this than the actual Dega wreck. He's probably had 2-3 concussions before. He definitely had one at California in 01 and Dover in 02. And one you get one it is far easier to keep getting them

NASCAR will lose more fans daily if the racing is "boring"

Yeah no. Have a big one at those speeds and cars will land in the stands.

quote:

In 2004, NASCAR driver Rusty Wallace tested a car at Talladega without a restrictor plate and reached a reported top speed of 228 miles per hour (367 kilometers per hour) on the backstretch and had a one-lap average speed of 221 mph. Wallace described the experience as "insane" [source: NASCAR.com].

There wouldn't be a "big one" because they would spread out on a 2 mile track, the plates are what causes the pack racing like that.

The plates are responsible for the cars grouping up. There is a reason this primarily happens on restrictor-plate races.

Does it really matter if you hit the wall at 200 or 221 MPH?

He had a concussion a couple weeks ago at the Kansas test. His tire failed and he hit the wall at 40Gs.

No shite. Regardless, NASCAR isn't going to let them run 230 mph.

He got t boned in the driver side door. I happened to be watching his channel on directv and when letarte asked if he was okay, he said something like yeah I think, but I don't know how many more of those I can take... You could tell in his voice he got rocked.

Meh. I'm fine with the car since they got rid of that awful wing. But they are supposed to be getting a good face lift next year. They will, imagine this, actually look more like the cars they are branded as.

I wish NASCAR would break all of their races up into segments. Race 150 miles and get a certain amount of points where you finish.

Race another 150 and get points.

and then race a 200 miler at the end and get high number of points.

It would make it more interesting to me.

don't we all?

But seriously you remember the Edwards and Keselowski wreck at Dega a few years back? Edwards car almost went in the stands and that wasn't pack racing. Just them two by themselves. An extra 30 mph of force and that fence might not have held.
