Meh it's not that bad - couple of key drops. Receivers will get better.

Mett's stat line is 11/25 for 158 yards yesterday. That's 14.4 yards per completion, which isn't too shabby. After watching the game it looks like Landry and Boone should / could have caught 2 more, and OBJ had 3 drops. If all we do is get half of those back, we probably win the game.

We ran more passing plays than we did running plays. I agree that the play calling should have been better. I'm sure if Stud/Miles/Krags could have the game back they wouldn't have run it on 3rd and long (???? WTF were we doing running it on 3rd and long ????) but seriously, we had a lot of drive killing drops.

That being said the recievers are young, they'll learn how to catch - if they catch half of the ones they dropped last weekend, our passing game is 15/25 for 215 yards. We'd still kinda look like garbage but I think we would have beaten Florida like 17-14.

That Florida crowd wasn't messing around either - they did their job. Let's do ours against south Carolina and we'll take that game.

Did something happen to James Wright? I don't remember seeing him any on Saturday.

I'm a positive guy but I have zero faith in the receivers right now. IMO they are the biggest disappointment.

I didn't mean to say the Offense wasn't bad - it was downright putrid. The team itself isn't that bad - defense will keep us in games

But the receivers - if they even got half of their 8 drops back we would be singing a different tune now.

at this point I'm pleasantly surprised when they actually hold onto the ball

I have a theory on why the receivers drop balls. First, I doubt any of our guys dropped this many balls in hs. Otherwise they would not have been recruited by LSU let alone be allowed on the field. With that in mind, I think the reason has to do with the fact our staff is not confident in throwing the ball as a matter of philosophy. In other words, the mo seems to be ball control, simple, throw when necessary. This lack of confidence in my opinion trickles down to the players. The players then feel like they have to do something extra special any time the ball is thrown to them. This takes the focus off of just catching the ball. Well, it's a theory or at least that's what I'm telling myself.

Our 270# FB catches better than our WRs. They have nowhere to go but "get better".

The key problem with our passing game is the quaterback. I was at the game saturday and on numerous plays laundry was running around with no one with in 15 yards of him. Mett had no idea how to check down to his second receiver (this could be inpart to the pressure he is receiving from the horrible play of the o-line). Mett locks in on his first target (which will cost us quite a bit more turnover in the future) and if he is not open he is done unless we have a back coming into the flat that he can check down to. The passing game will not succeed with out metts number one target ever play getting seperation and allowing him to try to force the ball in there. I easily see him putting up Jarrett Lee freshman type interception numbers by the end of the year.

Heretic!

How dare you actually entertain the idea that this team is capable of turning their season around!!!

Don't you know where you are??

I hope you are right buddy; I still believe in the Tigers, too!

What.

You learn to catch a ball when you are like two years old . It has NOTHING to do w/ the coaching staff, it is on the receivers. You cannot blame that on anybody but the person dropping the ball, it is just not possible...

people need to realize that not every receiver running a route is part of the actual play. And expecting a first year starter to recognize an open receiver that is not part of the designed progression is simply ignorant.

If the WRs would simply catch the balls that they come in contact with, this season has a completely different feel to it. Even my inbred cat realizes that the OL is struggling, but despite that, Mett is making enough throws to keep us winning if the WRs would focus on catching the ball.

Will they get better?

i am one of the most optimistic people around here.. i don't like the trend of the receivers.
