The Medical redshirt rule is 30% of the year played, 70% of season not played, makes you eligible for another season. It's voluntary. Some may not want another year and go pro or just finish school and go to work. Dyworsick got a 6th year, but, he wanted it, applied for it. Gives the player an advantage in getting that degree.

but why not go ahead and get it if you can?
you can still go pro as a 2 year sophomore if you choose.. i think if you are eligible you should do it, no?
