That was bitten by a venomous snake in the US?
Just had an interesting discussion with someone that ws stationed at the same obscure base I was in the late 80s....and we each knew someone that got bit on that base...
Both were water moccasins....oddly I knew both of the guys....one bite was 4 months after I left....
But I know personally 4 people that have been bitten....
1 acadia paris 1982 water moccasin...
2 st tamanard parish copperhead 1985
3. Cane break...st landry/evangilne parish 2004
4. Copper head Washington parish. 2000
All survived.....one of the copper heads was well deserved bite......shot it and it bit when he kicked it....

Girl I went to school with got bit on the foot by a copperhead
I had an Uncle Bare' that live in PAC and supposedly he had been bitten over a dozen times. He was my Mow mow's brother and didn't speak any english. Went to his house once and it wasn't much more than your typical cypress swamp house. His grandkids were on the porch eating lunch. Each had a pile of ketchup on a plate

I see 2-4 every year in office/hospital. I am one of 22 primary care docs in our county so that is from 40-100 bites in this county alone annually. All are copperhead with a very rare moccassin or rattler. We se 5 times that with harmless snakes.

Friend got bit by a canebrake around Holly Ridge. He was deer hunting and didn't feel like going up in his climber so he just sat down at the base of a tree. He fell asleep and woke up around dusk. Put his hand down to push himself up and got popped.
Stayed in the Richland Parish Hospital for 3 days. Had all kind of crazy hallucinations and a lot of swelling.

I posted this a couple of days ago in another thread. If you've already read it, my apologies for being German...

Well, actually I have been bitten by a copperhead. I was very lucky, though. I was up on the mountain repairing a washout in the dam on the pond. I had hauled about 15 bags of Quickrete (sp?) up there in the back of my old truck. I was placing those bags of Quickrete in the washout when I heard something that sounded like my car keys rattling around in my pocket. I first thought I had dropped my keys. I straightened up from squatting on the ground moving those quickrete bags around in the washout and then I felt something hit my right leg about midway up to my knee. It felt like I had stepped on a stick which flew up and hit my leg. I looked down and there was a copperhead about 24 inches long coiled up and ready to strike again. Had I not straightened up when I did, he would have bitten me in the face, neck, or shoulder area. I still don't know what made the key rattling noise. But that noise caused me to stand up and that saved my life. I was also very lucky in that I was wearing some rubber knee high boots. There were two tracks of venom flowing down the boot where the copperhead struck. I grabbed my shovel and beat and splashed that corner of the pond dry, but I got him. To this day, I don't know why I didn't see the copperhead to start with and I don't know if the snake made or caused the car key rattling sound. But standing up when I did and having on a pair of knee high rubber boots saved my a$$. And I did not smell that cucumber odor that oldtimers mention sometimes. Nah, I don't hate snakes, but I don't mess with em, either. If the Good Lord wanted us to pick em up, he would have put a handle on em. But he didn't.

My son was bit when he was 3 by a cottonmouth. Spent about 2 weeks in the hospital. Still has muscle damage from the scarring. He saw the crocodile hunter catching them and thought he could too. Keep in mind, he was playing in the front yard, within sight. I was at work, wife turned away for a minute, and bam.
Crazy thing is, he was trying to catch it again by the time she got to him.

My uncle got bit on the thumb by a little copperhead. Yes he was trying to handle it. His thumb swelled up and turned black but it got better pretty quick.

I got bit by a copperhead back in the mid 80's. Really turned my leg black and purple, quite a bit of swelling.
