Family lease in MS got sold this year, just a few weeks before opening day. Food plots were planted, and wasps were nuked from shoothouses, now it's gone. Many a miller lite has suffered my dad's wrath over this, and I'm pretty pissed off myself.

I've heard Sherburne is really thin on deer and impossible for me to get to except for weekends. I hear Maurepas is impossible without a boat. Joyce would be the best from where I work, is it the same story as Maurepas? What would the OB do?

Tough on weekends only, do you bow hunt? Rifle seasons on WMAs are very short...

Go get all my shooting houses then find someone that needs a member that plans on bringing "X" amount of quality shooting houses.

Yeah, I was actually planning on just bowhunting all year if it was on a WMA. Doesn't take much thinkin to figure out why they don't allow a ton of rifle hunting out there. I'll probably buy orange socks.

Tunica is good but tough as frick after you shoot one. Cat island nwr had some good bow hunting but not sure since flood, I know the stuff on the hill next to it is money. You have to have a bow hunter education card to hunt it though. And they have swine all over it also.

Indian Bayou, which is federal land just west of Sherburne, gets a lot less pressure than Sherburne. Just make sure you follow all the federal rules: LINK.
Scroll down and see the links to all the documents.

Also, Three Rivers, Red River, Grassy Lake, Pomme de Terre, Spring Bayou, Alexander State Forest, and maybe even the southern end of Kisatchie are all within a 2 hour drive of BR.

I scouted Indian Bayou once. Just a vast expanse of semi-swamp, with no real funnels that I could see. One food plot. It would be hard to hunt unless there are a ton of deer.

Tensas NWR and Buckhorn are both really good. You have federal rules in Tensas and the gun hunts are lottery.

Buckhorn has several weekend either sex gun hunts, along with bow hunting for most of the season.

Some years ago I got drawn for both Tensas and Buckhorn lotteries. I did Tensas one day, then Buckhorn on Sunday. I really liked Buckhorn, but it is too far away for a day hunt from Alexandria, and where are you going to stay?

Joyce can be hunted from a pirogue and has some old deer back there if you bank the boat and walk a ways. If I did not have a place in MS, IWHI.
