Movie was very meh, but, damn, Nolte's performance was moving. It killed me to see him get destroyed by his sons. He really did an amazing job. I felt terrible for him

Says the Boise State fan.
Maybe the movie wasn't absolutely amazing but his performance was great. I felt so bad for him.

Well very much unplausible and Hollywood-ized, it still was a really good movie.
And Nolte's performance was nothing shy of fantastic.

It was definitely a strong performance in what I thought was a very good film. I can't really comment on whether or not he was robbed since I've only seen him and Jonah Hill in Moneyball out of the 5 nominees. But I did prefer Nolte over Hill.

Agreed not plausible, especially Tom Hardy's character (well both of the brothers). But, good movie. And for has rewatchability. Nolte's character was for me really emotional. Portrayed how life can just kick some people in the arse.

Nolte was good...nothing really of a reach though in terms of his character and yes, I did wonder while watching it if he pulled a Martin Sheen (Apocalypse) and just showed up to the set already blitzed out of his mind and pissed off at the world.
