What are your thoughts?
Thank you for indulging me this week as I ask a lot of questions. I've been coming back to BR very regularly for 4 years now, but always just with my kids to see my kids.
However, this time I am bringing a date for the first time.

Is there much difference in getting fried seafood? If the shrimp are fresh and from the gulf, which most places serve, then it will come out about the same at any restaurant if fried.

Montalbano's on Florida have been some of the best I have had, but its not a date place.
you are right, most restaurants are fairly similar

Don't know about the best, but Acme is acceptable. Wide range of seafoods if that's what you're after. Personally, I'd take her to eat in the bar at Mansur's and indulge in the chargrilled oysters. No fried shrimp, though.

Maybe you are just spoiled by never having gone to a place with poorly prepared fried seafood.

of course. Does every restaurant do this? not in my experience.

I thought about this place. My son and one of his friends will be with us too, and this is a good volume place for a college soph.
(p.s. He's not coming with us to have drinks after tho.

Thanks. I am looking for a bit more of a dining experience though. I will keep this in mind.
Oh, can you pee off the roof there?

If you don't mind driving South a bit in my opinion Hymel's in Convent has great fried shrimp. But thats not a romantic type restaurant. It's loud and noisy but a fun atmosphere.
Tommy's fish house is good in Prairieville. Langniappe is good. Parrain's are good. Captain Anderson's in Gonzales is good with good atmosphere for a date.

Mansur's
Maybe next time.
She grew up in Savannah and loves fried shrimp. I took her to a place in ATL a couple of weeks ago...specifically as a fried shrimp treat.
Awful shrimp. They came tail off (I was immediately suspicious) and the breading was bland. The shrimp were small and rubbery. And the hush puppies were burnt tasting and greasy. Ironically, my meal was fantastic.
Soooo, I told her I'd get her some good stuff when we went to BR.

Hymels in Convent has the best, get a dozen jumbos and a frozen fishbowl, bit of a drive but worth it
for closer places, Make Anderson's is known as a fry palace and does do shrimp well, I have not been but I hear the sports bar at the new casino is good

I am going to bookmark this for another time. I'd love to take her for a drive down river road some day.

I say City Cafe has them beat on size and taste. Really one of the only things I order there though.

She will have driven 500 miles, so the distance to Hymels or Robertos should not be a problem.

Mike Andersons or Parrains best seafood fryers in town in a decent setting.. IMO

Yes. There are differences in coatings, batter and frying. For example, a friend got a fried catfish plate at Copeland's advertised at "thin and crispy". There was nothing thin or crispy about the fish. It was heavily battered big chunks with uncooked gummy batter, barely golden brown with no crispiness whatsoever. Not worth eating so she didn't eat the fish.
There's plenty of underfried and overfried seafood out there in which case freshness doesn't matter.
