Yeah, I watched them play St. Paul's this past week at the jamboree. (0-0 final)

Granted, both teams were neutralized with HORRENDOUS field conditions, a la Capital One Bowl 2010, so neither team revealed anything spectacular on offense. SPS outgained Rummel 185-125, and failed on two scoring opportunities (2 missed FGs) and held Rummel out of scoring range for the most part.

Damian Williams is a solid QB, though. He just isn't surrounded by a bevy of playmakers on offense. Rummel's defense was awesome though. They really shut down the run (St. Paul's usual strength).

It is a down year for 5A IMO, though.

Dutchtown could be a 6-4 team this year.

No complementary votes for Catholic? That district could be horrendous. I know the results of the jamboree, but EA might be the best team in the district at the end of the year.

Yeah Rummel's D is always atleast good. Damian needs to have a steller season if they want to get to the dome.

West Monroe vs Barbe in the Dome. WM beats them for the 3rd year in a row in another close game.

I can see this, if they get matched up on opposite ends of the bracket.

St. Paul's chokes hard every year after beating really good non-district opponents early on and cruising through a joke of a district afterward. Last year was their year to make a run to at least the semis and they blew it in the first round.

Rummel is another team that just can't get over that hump (granted a couple years back, when they made it to the dome with that senior-laden defense), but ran into a buzz saw in West Monroe.

Barbe has never won a state title (correct me if I'm wrong) I'm pretty sure, but they definitely have the talent.

I've heard Acadiana is in a rebuilding year (again, correct me if I'm wrong), but they are the type of team that improves greatly as the season goes on.

Wow, Denham Springs receiving votes for the top 10.

That Rummel/Denham matchup will be a good one.

Yeah, Denham has improved vastly throughout the last few years. They have a RB (Kaleb Blanchard) committed to Arkansas and a OL/DL (Tevin Lawson) committed to LSU.

Wow, I just noticed that Westgate was redistricted to the Bayou league from the Lafayette-area district. Rape will ensue.

i'd swap West Jeff and Ouachita...

i watched the Glory Days documentary Sunday, part 2, where they covered from 1967-1977, and it struck me how many different teams made the 3A and 4A (highest class) semifinals in those days

in the last 10 years of 5A

Evangel 4
Rummel 4
Acadiana 6
West Monroe 9
Carencro 2
Hahnville 2
Fontainebleau
Slidell
Catholic (BR) 3
Sulphur
Destrehan 2
Westgate 3
John Ehret
Barbe
Central (BR)
St. Thomas More
Mandeville
Byrd

actually more teams than i thought now

from 1967 to 1977

Airline 2
Holy Cross
Woodlawn
Sulphur
Bogalusa 2
LaGrange
West Jefferson
Brother Martin
St. Augustine 2
Neville
Captain Shreve
Glen Oaks
Tara
Fair Park
Covington 2
Istrouma
South Lafourche
Bonnabel

these teams just made the finals in that era. add Chalmette, Shaw, and Rummel who made the semis and i'm sure other teams too

Catholic couldn't make the playoffs in a one and done district last year. After Dutchtown, that whole district was dog crap last year.
