Nope, they came up with everything out of thin air.

re: Slide from Apple's closing arguments against Samsung.

Wait, wait wait.

This is an argument of Apple Vs. Samsung? How? How is it not an argument of IOS Vs. whatever version of Android was implemented on those phones?

How can apple really argue that the flower is anything similar to the picture frame and play button variations? Oh no, they used a picture of a clock to display the alarm clock.. The ONLY legit argument Apple may have is the first Phone button and the Galaxy S i9000 phone button.

Dafuq?

Samsung has 60,000+ patents compared to Apple's 9,000. I'm not sure why apple really wants to go down this road

Proofs in the pudding. Samsung isn't innovating at all. They seem to be doing just fine copying. So I think you are demonstrably wrong.

This is the point.

I may end up looking like an a-hole for offering this challenge because I am not sure, but has Samsung ever brought anything to market in consumer electronics that didn't mimic someone else?

Has there ever been a time when the tech world has been turned on it's ear because of something amazing that Samsung did in house?

I'm not talking about something Google did that ended up on a Samsung product via Android. I'm talking about something that came out of Samsung.

They copied Apple and RIM, they copied those successful in the appliance space, they copy everyone.

It is not good that Samsung has gotten so huge and so powerful. They are no better than some a-hole in Hong Kong selling bootlegs of Lady Gaga CDs.

aren't they the leaders in LED technology? I believe they are the inventors of the flexible LED screen which is an absolutely awesome invention

They're also developing tech that would allow Windows and glass to double as lighting and display

The idea of "fairness" in the global marketplace is for whiners and losers. I honestly can't stand people who point to "fairness" as the basis of their argument. Lean on something else, but don't point to fairness. Kill or be killed. That is the way of the world and it has been that way since before the wheel was invented.

ETA: Please, no one copy my wheel idea. Its too good. You're gonna have to invent hovercraft or your company shall perish. ALternatively, if you copy my wheel, don't use black rubber, I already use black rubber on mine.

Seeing as how Samsung is merely the manufacturer of the phones, not the operating system, I fail to see how you can reasonably expect them to "innovate" anything for an Android OS. What are they going to "innovate"? Button location? If you're talking about refrigerators.. kind of hard to innovate that.. a fridge is a fridge is a fridge. Samsung practically leads the market in television sales and innovation.

No.

They fricked Sony in their intrusion into the HDTV space by copying them.

has anyone?

there is a big difference in distributing exact copies of content and products with some similar designs

again, if samsung made shitty products, nobody would buy them. if samsung made expensive products, nobody would buy them

these slight design similarities likely rank WAY down the totem poll and shouldn't be patentable anyway

"copying" creates a baseline standard that all must adhere to. then for each to differentiate, they will have to become more creative to get the next "first"

Or just copy the original and sell for a little bit less. Why even put forth the effort to become the first when you can just sit back and copy the first and get rich?

for how long?

we're talking about a market that consonantly is updating and innovating itself

Samsung also makes the icemaker for Maytag.

Whirlpool makes the icemaker for all other fridges, except for lower end GE's not made by Samsung. Which are made by GE.

Samsung fridges are top notch, with the only flaw being thermistor location and the drain in the fridge.

That said. You don't say Mecury is ripping off Ford, or that Lexus is ripping of Toyota.

Samsung makes the new GE fridges.

Thats just the way it is.

Samsung is not doing this. Why? Because AMerican car manufacturers tried it for decades and failed. Hence, we know this strategy doesn't work.

It's one thing if they're stealing trade secrets, but once it hits the market, they're late anyway.

You mean like paving the way for SmartTV's, refrigerators with built in LED and apps, smart washing machines, windows with built in blinds, apps, and widgets?
