Like I said, I'm just going to leave it at that. We will clearly agree to disagree.

Exactly .

I'm leaning towards Martin trying to finish up TWoW rather than there being "conflict" with him and D&D. I wouldn't be surprised if he's actually given them some very rough drafts of what he's written and I'm sure those two know more about what will be in TWoW than we the fans know.

Is anyone else concerned with how D&D in the past several months said "7 seasons total"? There's no way they can wrap it up in only 3 more seasons. IMO GoT needs 8 whole seasons to tell the story right.

Robert Jordan has averaged less than 2 years per book for Wheel of Time, an equally massive series of books and massive world.

And he died before the last 3 books . One of my friends is reading WoT right now and she told me she actually prefers the ghost writer since Jordan's writing grew sloppy towards the end because of his illness.

Brandon Sanderson is a great writer.

There's been a lot of talk about movies to finish things up too. But I think they're going to end up with more than 7 seasons. That might be their goal, but I bet HBO will talk them into more given the fan following.

Jordan's writing actually became sloppy way before he became sick. He actually had a similar thing going on as Martin, got to the middle of the series and the books started taking much longer as the quality got worse. Though to be fair to Martin, his books have never gotten as bad as Jordan's nor were Jordan's books the same quality of Martin's.

But Brandon Sanderson is a very good writer for sure, and the three books of WOT he wrote were much better written than the last 4 Jordan wrote.

I think once he is finished writing TWOW, it will not take that long to edit it as they have apparently been doing so all along as he finishes chapters. I am guessing whenever the announcement comes, the publishing date will be within a few months.

Like I've said before, and gotten heat for, hopefully he gets back to the couple years between books. The reality is he's 65 years old and if he continues at the clip of a growing timeframe between books (we've gone from 2 to 6) then nature is going to catch up to him even if he lives beyond the average male (77.4 years here in the US BTW) life expectancy. Especially if he's adding a third book to Winds and Spring.

He can be all "frick you" about that criticism but it's a valid one.

If you really want to compare Martin to someone, compare him to Steven Erikson and his Malazan Books of the Fallen. Erikson published an entire 10 book series (each book over 1000 pages) in 12 years (1999-2011). And the series is similar in quality to ASOIAF.

It is kinda funny though, folks used to bitch about Jordan taking too long to put the books out, when he started going from 1 a year to one every 2-2 1/2 years.

I'm trying my best here.

Mercy (current sample chapter)
Theon - Archived
Arriane - Archived
Victarion - transcribed from a Con reading
Barristan Selmy and Tyrion - transcribed from a Con
A Paragraph from a Tyrion Chapter - as given to Entertainment Weekly

And a link with the list of some of the others with summaries and transcriptions

ETA: Someone on Reddit compiled a bunch in a PDF but it got removed pretty quickly. Not sure if someone else has those around here.

2014 GoT CC panel full video

BTW was a pretty good watch. Had the reveal that Jeyne Westerling is in the Prologue of TWoW (as Finkle said later through GRRM post-panel interview, that doesn't necessarily mean she's the POV character she's just in it).

Maisie had a pretty solid answer to a fan who asks who she is now as of the end of the last season and whether she still has that Stark anchor so to speak.

A few people tried to ask about whether the show will pass the books and that bit. No answers for any of them.

Also had an answer from D&D as to why they didn't delve into Tysha with Tyrion (and more specifically the lack of his exchange with Jaime when he's released). Also explained why they roll with 10 episodes and not 13.

Everything else was pretty standard panel stuff but enjoyable to watch.

Also, when the material was originally sent to D&D it was going to be a movie per book. Thankfully they recognized there was no way that would fly.

It's would be just like GRRM to include Jeyne Westerling after D&D have gone and killed off show version of her.

Soo it appears some people are freaking out because Arianne and Arys Oakheart aren't listed in the casting announcements, and that Trystane is being identified as the heir to Dorne.

There's an interesting comment that since Trystane is betrothed to Myrcella he's a good fit to fill the role of the queensmaker. So when that fails he could also fill the role of Quentyn and head to Mereen.

Honestly it doesn't bother me all that much. They were pretty adamant in the panel to say that the show is the show and the books are the books. We're definitely going to see more of a departure as things progress on the show even if the major arcs remain largely intact.

How can they skip over Arianne though? She's more than likely going to marry Aegon. Plus it's another excuse for them to show tittays for the male viewers.
