in Davos' chapter with Manderly, Manderly describes how he married her and then locked her in a tower and starved her to the point that she was eating her own fingers

ETA: in Dance

So someone wrote in the Non-reader season 4 speculation thread that they think R+L=J is possible and wrote it in the Middle Ground thread.

That speculation thread will be filled with people trying to spoil things.

One guy is already trying

quote:

Yeah, I don't think we'll see Dany return to Westeros anytime soon, she's got the army, but I think her dragons need to grow more before she can safely take King's Landing.

Jon definitely is going to reunite the Brothers In Black, but I still think they're f*cked unless they get support from the Stannis, or the South.

Bran is gonna warg so hard.

Can't wait to see Arya start her wave of vengeance...she has to right? Also, I kind of don't want her to kill The Hound like she says she will. He's becoming the only semblance of family or protection for this poor girl.

Joffrey has to be a gonner...waaay to many people pissed off at him.

I think you're right about Baelish becoming a huge player soon. You think he's just going to be cool with the Lannisters murdering Catelyn in cold blood? His leveraging money between The Iron Bank and Tywinn Lannister is going to play a factor in here somehow.

I think that tale Bran was telling about the man who was cursed by the Gods for killing guests of his house is some awesome foreshadowing of what's in store for Walder Frey....Holy shite I want Blackfish to f*ck him up.

I've seen some theories posted of the Brotherhood without Banners coming to the Twins/Dead Starks and resurrecting some of them. I think Rob is out of the question, but I'm not so sure of Catelyn. I can see her coming back, but not as the Honorable Catelyn Stark/Tully. Rather a shell of her former self, without any of her previous nobility/honor, and exists purely to make up for all the poor choices she made that ultimately put her family in danger.

re: Crackpot ASOIAF Theories SPOILERS
Is that Helo's post? Because I just saw this, and there is absolutely no way this guy isn't trying to spoil things.

quote:

I will be surprised if Dany makes it to Westeros in S4. According to what I have read, there is supposed to be 7 seasons. I'd be surprised if she gets there to early, plus she is still half-way around the world with tens of thousands to move.

Jon takes Mormont's spot leading the Night' Watch but I have no idea how he survives next season with both the wildlings and the WW hitting the wall unless he vacats.

Unlike others, I like Bran's storyline because it is different but I have no clue where it goes.

Arya, I am guessing she leaves Westeros and goes to Braavos or gets training in Westeros to become a faceless man and maybe s5 she starts scratching names off her list.

I said this previously that I think Bealish purposedly put the crown at risk with the Iron Bank and now will get their support somehow to either make a play for the crown or apply leverage. I believe he is a big part of next season.

Joffery is toast somehow. Maybe by his uncle, grandfather, Sansa?, Iron Bank or someone. His enemy list is getting to long.

Jaime will probably go back to Casterly Rock and take Lordship now that is can no longer be a Kingsguard, I suspect they will let him go.

Tyrion and Sansa will be interesting. I really have no idea how that storyline unfolds because it could really go any way.

Blackfish will pull Frey's lungs out through his throat.

Bolton will probably get stronger and exert control over the North. I doubt anything happens to him until later seasons probably at the hand of Bran, Arya or Jon.

Theon, who knows and at this point I struggle to care much.

Stannis, dude is weird and arrogant but he will probably rally people into the north to defend against the WW but not sure how that fits into his Throne seeking campaign.

Crackpot theory that I don't think has been mentioned yet:

What if Ned's mother, who is rarely if ever mentioned in the books, was from Skagos?

Couldn't that explain why Rickon chose to go there to seek protection?

It was some guy named Mick Shrimpton. He has like 10 posts. It's also obvious Billy Mays knows events from the books and trying to pass it off as his own speculation.

I like that theory, because it is weird that she is never mentioned. My only problem is that Rickon would probably have no idea that his Grandmother is from there. Maybe Luwin told him and Osha to go there.

Rickon didn't choose to go there. Osha took him there. I think she may be from there, or at least spent time there and knows it's a good place to stay hidden and safe. She didn't trust any of the northern lords and she wasn't about to go beyond the wall.

I was thinking that Maester Luwin could've told Osha too and therefore she thought it was the safest place to go since it wasn't on the mainland.

There has to be a reason why GRRM is intentionally leaving out who Ned's mother was.

Hoping she wasn't a secret Targ.

That would be interesting if she was a Bolton too.

After 3 reads and way too much time spent in this thread, I have come to the following conclusion. GRRM leaves shite out mostly to frick with us. He knows how long it takes him to write, which gives us plenty of time to figure shite out. So we get all of these little red herring to throw us off here and there.

Ramsay catches women, releases them naked into the forest and hunts them. He then finds them, and if they provided good sport he rapes them, slits their throats, and then flays them. Or if they don't, he rapes them, flays them, slits their throat, and then feeds the corpse to his dogs.

re: Crackpot ASOIAF Theories SPOILERS
There's a lot of speculation on Westeros that there are Stark related people through blood or marriage on Skagos who are protecting Rickon.

I think that there is such a high level of texture to the story that people start to see red herrings where there are no red herrings. I think that Ned's mom most likely is simply unimportant. He didn't mention her for the simple fact that there was no point in mentioning her.

re: Crackpot ASOIAF Theories SPOILERS
But why would they give us detailed lists of the Frey lineage and Catelyn's mother family, the Whent's? Yet Ned's mom or her family is never mentioned? C'mon. I think it would be interesting if she was either a Skaagosi, a Wildling, or a Reed. Could explain why the Reeds love the Starks.

Also, I think there is more to Benjen joining the NW than GRRM lets on. Yes, he was a third son, but his dad, brother, and sister all died. Shouldn't Benjen have gotten married and had children to ensure the Stark family wouldn't go extinct? Yes I know Robb would take precedence over Benjen's inheritance of Winterfell but still.

re: Crackpot ASOIAF Theories SPOILERS
From a few pages ago:

quote:

GRRM has promised an explanation for the haywire seasons. He claims it even makes sense

My dime-store scientific opinion:

the only reason the Earth has seasons is it's tilted axis. I would assume a planet without any tilt, and in a semi-circular orbit, would then have separate but consistent climate conditions per geographic location. (Dorne vs LoAW)
The only climate changes would therefore have to be based on this planet's orbit, specifically it's period and apogee / perigee - for example, lets say it takes their planet 100 earth years to complete one cycle, with an extremely elliptical orbit. One could expect the majority of that cycle to be spent either on approach or away from its sun, (colder, darker) representing WINTER and a much shorter time near the sun, representing SUMMER.
Of course, a moon world orbiting a Gas Giant could represent a similar effect, but include long periods of total darkness during time spent in the giant's shadow. Only thing is, the Gas Giant should be visible almost all the time from the ground of this moon, and we've heard no mention of one. Besides, a moon orbiting a GG would never be able to hang on to its atmosphere.

Basic idea, where 1= midpoint of winter and 2= midpoint of summer, 3= sun

End science guy rant.

I was thinking of posting the same idea. Seems like the only logical explanation but, if this theory was right, you should have the same times of winter/summer throughout time. If I remember right, there were short Summers AND short Winters.

the planet could also rotate very differently to where certain parts of westeros are farther away form the sun for long periods or closer to the sun for longer periods

i just wonder why we never read about long winters/summers on the Eastern Continent

i know according to maps, the north of westeros is much farther north than the northern portions of the eastern continent but during harsh winters even the more southern kingdoms of westeros were affected

so basically, i have no fricking idea
